Sizzling Seating!
Funded Jan 10, 2023I wish I could have captured the initial viewing of our new beautiful seating area! Students were so thrilled to use our new couch!
Each week, when students come to my room, we move to a smaller area for a mini-lesson. We call it the movie theater room because it is cozy and darker than the other room. We can all fit in there and the smaller space makes everyone feel inclusive in the room. There are some seat crates in the area and kids sit on top of bookcases.
Your beautiful and comfy couch provided another seating area for 5-6 students. The couch is soft and cozy and it makes them feel as if they are home. They absolutely love it!
Thank you so very much for your generosity and thoughtfulness in making our learning experience extremely special!”

Safe Seating
Funded Jan 25, 2022Thank you so much for the lovely new seating in our meeting area. This area is a coveted part of our classroom where we spend time together learning and working cooperatively as a family. Students love the space and are constantly asking if we will be spending time there when they arrive for STEM. In addition, the new sofa has become so popular that we had to create a seating schedule to give every student the opportunity to sit there during the school year.
When they first saw the sofa, their joy was overwhelming! They told me it feels just like home! We are hoping to add more "furniture" in the space soon!
Thank you again for your generosity, especially during The Great Kindness Challenge week here at PS 56. Your kindness was certainly appreciated and as Mr. Carollo always said, "Kindness has its own reward."”

Downward Dog Attends School
Funded Nov 23, 2020Thank you so much for your generous contribution to wellness in our school community. Your donation has provided assistance to students that do not have the means available to purchase a towel or mat for yoga. The mats you provided are made of high quality material and are perfect for the needs of our little learners.
Through your donation, we have brought happiness to many students as we partake on a program aimed at providing students with anxiety and stress release, especially during the current pandemic. Some of our students are apprehensive to attend school, but need to so their parents can work. These students really enjoy the yoga program, especially when we have the ability to go outside. The mats are extremely useful so students do not have to sit directly on the concrete floor.
We are grateful for your support to our social emotional program and your commitment to aiding the needs of our students. It is thanks to amazing donors, such as yourself, that we can provide materials not part of the current budget. Thank you again for your kindness!”

Mrs. Lo Magno
This classroom project was brought to life by Allstate Foundation and 3 other donors.Inspiration Can Be Found Everywhere
Funded Dec 22, 2019Thank you such much for your support on this fabulous project. This project combined STEM skills with social-emotional growth learning benchmarks.
First, my students learned about the purpose of inspirational quotes. They researched various individuals in history, including Misty Copeland, and how she was determined to succeed as a dancer even though she was African American. We discussed being a hero by inspiring others to never give up and stay determined.
My third grade students worked with their classroom teachers and our computer teacher to design their inspirational quote on the Cricut.com 12" by 12" grid. Students were required to create their own quote and find images that would match their quote.
This project empowered my students to make a positive impact in their school building while adding to their technology skills. We can't thank you enough for your generous donation!”

This classroom project was brought to life by An anonymous classroom supporter and 10 other donors.Stomp Out Bullying!
Funded Nov 15, 2018We cannot express how much we appreciate your generosity! The tools you have provided allow us to complete pertinent classwork in a relaxing environment where students are anxious to come and learn. Your supplies have also aided in providing a hands-on project as we educate students about bullying.
At our school, we are lucky enough to provide Conflict Resolution as a class for our elementary school students. This gives us the opportunity to teach social-emotional growth and discuss topics which students may deal with presently and in the future. The students love coming to class and the chairs you donated gives the classroom a homey feeling. The kids are relaxed while discussing topics, such as feelings, bullying and respect.
We were lucky enough to use your art supplies and templates to create bullying buddies. Students discussed the importance of standing up for themselves, how to help others, and what bullying can truly look like in person and online. Students then talked about how they can be an ally to a friend or just someone in need. We were able to create images of ourselves as "Bullying Buddies". The students had a great time designing themselves and recreating their special features. These buddies will be displayed outside of Conflict Resolution class to demonstrate our commitment to providing an environment where students can feel safe and enjoy coming to daily.
Thank you again for your support as we start a new year and get ready to send off another group of students into the world! Make sure you keep checking our Donors Choose page to see all of the exciting things we have in store here at our school. Our Kids Action Team is in full swing deciding on a service learning project and thinking about how we can make an impact in our community and teach our students about their role as future citizens! We are also gearing up for two special events here, "The Great Kindness Challenge" and "Respect for All Week"! It is our commitment to make the world a better place one student at a time! Thank you for caring!”

This classroom project was brought to life by Be Internet Awesome.Creative and Cooperative Conflict Resolution!
Funded Sep 23, 2016Thank you again for your generous donation. We have really put your supplies to good use and the way our classroom structure was organized has changed dramatically thanks to you!
Since your donation, I am able to share read alouds with all my students. Previously, students were unable to see the pictures in my books and were not as attentive during read alouds. Now we use the document camera to share the photos in the books and the camera is so crystal clear and enlarged that my students can practice their reading skills and take turns reading along with me. My students are more focused and there is a greater participation rate among my classes.
We used your art supplies to create some great work which can be viewed around the entire building. We created life-sized buddies with your craft paper and hung over 20 to 30 of them around the building to promote October anti-bullying month. We also used your art supplies to make the bulletin board outside of my classroom which signifies kindness. My students have really had the opportunity to shine using all the great items you donated which help them express their feelings during our Conflict Resolution class. The children enjoy coming into my room and creating such wonderful works of art. When the children first saw the craft paper bullying buddy project they were so excited. We had enough paper to create life-sized posters and the kids were able to lay on the floor and trace one another. Thanks to your generosity, we have enough paper for a similar activity or to recreate the same activity next year.
In the spring I am thinking of using some of the craft paper to create a peaceful classroom by drawing signs of peace on the paper, cutting slits, and hanging from the ceiling of my classroom. I think it would look amazing and students would walk into the classroom admiring the beautiful works of art on the ceiling.
Thank you again for your thoughtfulness and for all that you have done for my program and students. During this holiday season we send you warm wishes and a healthy and happy 2017!”

Mrs. Lo Magno
Help Save the Trees!
Funded Dec 23, 2014Your generosity can not be measured in words! As you look at our photos you can see how necessary this teaching tool was for our classroom. Prior to its arrival, we were using an average of one chart tablet a month. There were papers littered all over our classroom and we probably caused the demise of at least one tree!
Currently, our new teaching tool plays a role in a more interactive lesson and my students are benefiting greatly through its use. They are excited to come to our meeting area and there is always a debate on which student gets a turn to share information on our dry-erase board.
Thank you again for your kindness and for helping to make our classroom an environment for learning! As we sit under the shade of a tree this summer, to keep us out of the sweltering heat, we will think of you!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Lo Magno
We Care and We Hope You Will Too!
Funded Mar 17, 2014We cannot thank you enough for your generous donation of supplies and necessary items to continue our charity and communtiy service. Your kind act has allowed us to make a difference in so many ways.
Once your items arrived, we began preparing for our next few service projects. The first included a massive school-wide food drive for the "Bread of Life Food Drive 2014." This drive is run by the Notre Dame Society in Staten Island and 100% of the donations are given to local churches and organizations which feed the poor. The children made beautiful posters and really enjoyed the smelly markers. The posters were hung up around the building and our collections began. Student Council students collected cans each day, wearing shirts that had food labels glued all over them. They sent home flyers and made announcements over the loudspeaker. Thanks to their efforts, students collected 477 food items to donate. Way to go PS 22!
We were also invited by the All Island Kiwanis Club to host a fundraiser at the Teleport to support the March of Dimes. Once again your supplies were invaluable to promote our cause. We sent out flyers urging students to attend the event. We also made posters which depicted facts every expecting mother should know about taking care of themselves and their fetus while pregnant. We set up a table at the event where we sold trinkets to help raise funds. Students made price lists and also set up raffles. Thanks to their fabulous volunteering efforts and the beautifully displayed posters and table, we were able to collect over $600.00 for the March of Dimes, March for Babies.
My students have a rejuvenated goal to help make a difference in the community in which they live. They are constantly looking for new ways to help and we are always seeking for new projects. Our program is able to stay funded through wonderful individuals, such as yourselves, who aid us in areas where the school is unable to provide funding. This program needs to be self-sustained through grants and wonderful organizations like Donors Choose.
We again thank you for the fabulous supplies and helping us continue to make a difference in the lives of others.”

Mrs. Lo Magno
