This project will help support students during exploratory learning within the math classroom. The students are expected to collaborate and learn with each other once per week, this project offers materials to ensure a collaborative, exploratory environment. Specifically, each table group will get a classroom caddy which will include expo markers, dry erase markers for writing math problems on their desks, fidgets, stress balls, large erasers, etc. The binder tabs will help the students to learn organizational skills with their classroom binders. The storage cubes will be for groups to keep their classroom supplies organized and all in one place to grab each day as they come in. The desktop drawers will be space for each class period of the day for students to turn in their work in one centralized station. Additionally, these materials will create a culture within the classroom that is fun, exciting, and encouraging the students to reengage in the learning. Many students have been learning remotely for over 18 months and will be stepping foot back into the classroom for the first time since March 2020. I want my classroom to be one that excites them, one that is inclusive to all learners, and one that really is building a community when we have been distanced for so long. The posters will provide words of encouragement all over the classroom to visually support their social-emotional well-being. An aesthetically pleasing workplace brings in a mentality of productivity and reduces anxiety which many teens have in the math classroom. The marquee letters will provide a station of rotation messages, phrases, sayings of encouragement that are math themed/puns. All of these materials will be used to directly benefit the students in my math classroom.
