In a technology driven world, I feel my math students are not only losing the ability to retain knowledge, but also their ability to think critically without the assistance of technology. My students have technology constantly available to them at home and in the classroom, but learning and retaining math concepts cannot be learned only through a screen. I want to implement a blended math classroom, which utilizes learning math concepts by paper and pencil, along with technology to enhance those skills. With cuts in funding and the ever rising cost of paper supplies, my school wants to go all online, completely taking the paper and pencil part of learning mathematics away. I as a teacher believe this would be not only a very hard transition for our students, but will also hurt our students ability to learn and master math concepts in classroom. If I could supply paper to my students for taking notes and making copies of guided notes for them to follow and work examples in class, I know they would greatly benefit and make more progress than having to do everything online. I also want to utilize the lap whiteboards in my classroom for students to work out problems while they are working through online assignments. I have plenty of whiteboards, but need more dry erase markers on hand for student use.
