  • A Gift Called Peace

    Funded Sep 20, 2024

Thank you for your generous donation to my classrooms mental health. The students were so excited when they used the expandable balls to help them control their breathing during moments of stress. The squeeze balls helped my high anxiety students as the sort to calm themselves during testing.

Because of your generosity, my students are able to practice yoga which allows them to decompress after a long day of learning. They are now calmer and their learning has been positively impacted.

Mental health impacts everyone. My students are now able to enjoy the benefits of controlled breathing, decompressing after a long day and meditate. They are able to become better citizens as they are able to now know a better way to control themselves.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Holmes

  • Experiencing Literature

    Funded Dec 20, 2023

Thank you for donating to our classroom library. It is very important for students to see themselves in literature. Your donation allowed my students to develop an understanding that all people have stories to tell.

My students read with such interest and excitement that independent reading time was a joy for each of them. As far as my reluctant readers, I read the books aloud to capture their attention and they in turn began to read the books on their own or would ask if I could continue reading to them.

Your generosity is well received by all of my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Holmes

  • Hearing to Improve Our Academics

    Funded Nov 29, 2023

Thank you for your generous donation towards my students' headphones. They are now able to focus on their lessons on Edmentum and Lexia; both are computer programs. The students are no longer have to keep their computer sound low and are able to hear their material which aids in their academic learning process.

When they received their headphones, students were eager to get on their Chromebooks and try them out. Many were so focused and expressed how their experience was much better than having no headphones. Others were simply thrilled and grateful for your kindness and dedication to their learning.

These headphones will also be used by students who receive read-alouds for testing. This will help them stay focused and enable them to do their best.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Holmes

  • Learning Through Organized Play

    Funded Jan 1, 2022

I want to thank you for all your support. Returning to school after the pandemic was very difficult. Students suffered from academic gaps as well as social interactions. Many did not grow socially as they were having to attend school virtually and did not have much social interaction except with their siblings.

With our "Learning Through Play" project with DonorsChoose, students have been able to participate in group activities, ranging from dodgeball, to hula-hooping contests, to playing basketball, along with other teambuilding activities. Students have begun to rebuild their social skills and I expect them to continue so that they may return to the level of social interaction that is appropriate for their age.

Your generous donations have helped our students to become better teamplayers.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Holmes

  • Butterflies Everywhere!

    Funded Oct 20, 2019

My students loves the butterfly garden. They were so excited when we began to plant our plants. In second grade, we learn about life cycles. This hands-on activity caused my students to become more interested in the life cycle of the butterfly and other insects.

In our classroom, we have Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches. The students were immediately able to make a connection between the MHC and the butterflies. This is a type of skill is essential to solidifying the connection between two insects. This also increases their understanding of how life cycles play an important roll in our lives.

Because it is too early for the plants to sprout, the students are anxiously awaiting for the blooms. We also have caterpillars in our class that we will release into the garden as soon as the weather breaks.

Thank you for making this life cycle unit memorable for my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Holmes

  • Reading in Comfort

    Funded Nov 26, 2019

As a second-grade educator, reading is very important in my classroom. I want my students to read for enjoyment and for learning. Due to your contribution to my project, "Reading in Comfort", my students are doing just that.

When the items began arriving in my classroom, my students became very excited. I was able to set up the reading seats and books on CD in the classroom reading corner. My students arrived the next day wanting to go and be in corner and to read. Because my reading corner is so inviting, my students are anxious during our reading time as they all can not wait to read in comfort. We received a new student at the beginning the year. When he came into the classroom, he immediately became excited when the students showed him their new reading corner.

Thank you for your generosity. My students are reading more and are happy to have a small place to visit to read their books. In the future, I hope to add more books into their reading corner based on various genres.

Thank you again sharing your love of reading for my second grade class!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Holmes

  • Creating a Community of Readers Through Listening

    Funded Nov 26, 2019

Thank you for all your generosity and support of education to my second grade students. They will greatly benefit from the listening stations materials in this project. My goal for them is to become life-long readers. Because of your support, becoming life-long readers is a reality for them.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Holmes

  • STEAM Ahead

    Funded Dec 14, 2018

In my classroom, my students are curious and eager to explore all that is presented to them. They were extremely excited when I presented them with the various activities included in the STEM set.

One activity, Fairy Tales Problem Solving Set: The Three Little Pigs, my students loved. They enjoyed hearing the story and then being tasked to create a house big enough for the three pigs to live in. I put this activity in a station during our literacy time. The students worked so quietly as they worked together to complete this task. Another project, The Magnetic Set, the students learned so much on their own about magnetism. The joy I witnessed was amazing. The best part was when they asked if they could do the activity again and again.

So, thank you much for helping to share the joy of learning with my students. Math and Science are so important and combining it with reading made this project phenomenal. I will be using this STEM kit for years to come. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Holmes

This year I want my students to explore the world around them. It is important for my students to learn themselves as well as how the world works. I want my students to be engaged in active learning. This STEM Bundle kit allows for hands on learning as well as structured play. In a world that is focused on test scores, I want my students to experience the fun in learning. This project will allow all students to learn about the world around them. By doing this, my students will learn to love the world they are in and hopefully this will motivate them to be more environmentally aware.
