Funded Mar 27, 2018Thank you for donating to my project "Titillating technology". Your donation has allowed me to receive 23 Asus chromebooks with a charging cart for my class. This is huge for my students. Typically my students only get 30 minutes a week to work with computers during their pre-planned computer instruction. Having a set of chromebooks in my room gives my students access to technology daily. Not only will it allow them to build their basic computer skills such as keyboarding, but it also allows me to differentiate instruction for them. They can produce their own work, do research, and practice reading, math and writing skills.
One of my students who has benefited from the chromebooks the most is a boy who has only been in the U.S. for 2 years. Not only is he learning English but he is learning all the 3rd grade skills. Currently he is working below grade level but the computer allows him to work on his reading and comprehension skills. He can listen to the text being read to him and follow along while the other students read to themselves. There are also some amazing math programs that allow students to practice at their skill level. He can work on addition and subtraction while other students are working on multiplication and division.
I also love the fact that I can give feedback to my students almost immediately. When they are writing or working in some programs, I have the ability to see what they are doing in real time and send them feedback without stopping them or interrupting others. This feedback allows them to fix their mistakes and stay focused on their task.
Many of my students come from high poverty backgrounds and these chromebooks are another step to level the playing field for them. Now my students of all abilities, interests and support have access to the same information and opportunities at school.”
With gratitude,
