  • Power Learning Reading

    Funded May 6, 2023

My students started using digital pens to practice their skills. The pens were very popular but I only had 4 for my entire class to share. With this project being funded I now have enough for all my students to use. The kids were so excited to be able to use them when they wanted and not have to wait a day or two until it was their turn.

We also received some more reading skill cards that focused on comprehension. Many of my students were ready to practice more than just basic reading skills and they were excited to have something more challenging.

Now my students can pick which skills they want to work on and they can do it independently or with a partner. They love the way the pens light up green or red and the sounds the pens make to signal if they have the correct answer. This is a fun way for them to learn.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Tubberville

  • Having Fun to Learn

    Funded Mar 12, 2023

My students were so excited to use all the materials. We received a variety of things that the students can use to practice their math and reading skills. I started by introducing one product at a time in small groups and all the students were excited to get their turn to try them.

We started by using the digital pens with the math and reading cards. Each card has a question with multiple choice answers on them. When the students use the digital pens to mark their answers, the pen lights up green when correct and red when incorrect. The pens also make fun sounds to signal a correct or incorrect answer. Then I used the letter dice with them. These dice have different parts of words on them so students can roll a word and read it.

Since being introduced to these materials, all my students have requested to use them during their choice time as well as the usual skill practice time. I am pleased to see they are able to practice and get immediate feedback even when I can't personally be working with the student.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Tubberville

  • Help Us Hear!

    Funded Mar 25, 2022

Thank you for helping my class hear. We use our computers daily. Sometimes the students are all using computers at the same time and sometimes we use them during centers. They are used for testing as well as daily practice in math, reading, writing and learning games.

These headphones allow all students to focus on their own work without the distractions from others. It also creates a safe feeling because students can't hear what other students are working on to compare themselves to. For example, they can't hear who is progressing faster or who is needing more support.

Without your donation only 3 students would have had headphones to use. Now everyone in my class has a comfortable, working pair that they can count on using all year.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Tubberville

  • Titillating Technology

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you for donating to my project "Titillating technology". Your donation has allowed me to receive 23 Asus chromebooks with a charging cart for my class. This is huge for my students. Typically my students only get 30 minutes a week to work with computers during their pre-planned computer instruction. Having a set of chromebooks in my room gives my students access to technology daily. Not only will it allow them to build their basic computer skills such as keyboarding, but it also allows me to differentiate instruction for them. They can produce their own work, do research, and practice reading, math and writing skills.

One of my students who has benefited from the chromebooks the most is a boy who has only been in the U.S. for 2 years. Not only is he learning English but he is learning all the 3rd grade skills. Currently he is working below grade level but the computer allows him to work on his reading and comprehension skills. He can listen to the text being read to him and follow along while the other students read to themselves. There are also some amazing math programs that allow students to practice at their skill level. He can work on addition and subtraction while other students are working on multiplication and division.

I also love the fact that I can give feedback to my students almost immediately. When they are writing or working in some programs, I have the ability to see what they are doing in real time and send them feedback without stopping them or interrupting others. This feedback allows them to fix their mistakes and stay focused on their task.

Many of my students come from high poverty backgrounds and these chromebooks are another step to level the playing field for them. Now my students of all abilities, interests and support have access to the same information and opportunities at school.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Tubberville

  • More Time for Creativity

    Funded Mar 30, 2011

Thank you for your generous donation to our classroom. Since receiving the drying rack we are able to produce more work in a shorter period of time. The kids have enjoyed creating an art book which integrates art with reading and writing. Before we had the drying rack it took a few days to do a page because we had to wait for the different pieces to dry. Now we can do multiple pages in a day and not worry about the students work getting ruined or glued together from crowding.

The drying rack has also allowed us to do other projects and have places to put them. When we were making paper in science we were able to do that project and an art project in the same day and not have to worry about where we would store them.

Once again thank you for helping our classroom achieve our goal of integrating subjects as well as enjoying the experience of creating.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Tubberville
