  • A Legendary Library!

    Funded Sep 6, 2023

These resources have been amazing to have in class! We received 2 bookshelves, a light, plant stand, a table and new books! The students LOVE the cozy place to read and are so excited about the legendary library!

It makes me so happy to see students so comfortable in their classroom and so excited to read. That was my exact goal of this project! The space is utilized daily and students are not shy about asking to sit there :)

This library is something that many, many kids will enjoy in the years to come. We are so thankful!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. DeMartini

  • Historical Fiction Fun!

    Funded Mar 30, 2023

We were SO pleased to add around 100 more books to our Historical Fiction Book Club collection! The students were so excited seeing all the new books arriving and couldn't wait to be the first ones to use them!

Since this unit is all about book clubs, the emphasis is on student choice. With all of these new, wonderful titles, students had more of a variety to choose from. Student choice always helps in making book clubs more fun and engaging! Hence, they learn more! :)

Thank you again for bringing so much joy and excitement to the classroom through these novels! We will continue to be grateful for you!”

  • Creativity With Seating!

    Funded Mar 30, 2023

Thank you so much for providing us with the funds to purchase new, white pillow case covers, as well as a tie-dye kit! The students were over the moon when I told them our project was funded!

When the materials arrived, the students were SO eager to find a day to to die-dye. We chose a Socio-emotional student support as we would have more time than just a busy lunch! I was able to hand pick students that were interested in art and needed some fun!

The cushions turned out incredibly! I also really enjoyed seeing the students working together to pick color patterns and choose tie-dye techniques! A true honor and joy to watch : SO THANK YOU!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. DeMartini

  • Flexible and Equitable Seating Options!

    Funded Feb 28, 2023

Thank you so much for providing us with these cushions! It allows students so much flexibility when learning to sit around the classroom and find cozier, quiet spots that may be less distracting than their day-to-day desk!

The students were SO excited to have these new materials and even helped me unbox and break down the boxes, as well as fluff up the pillows! They couldn't want to get the pillow cases on and use them!

I will attach some photos to this project. Again, we are incredibly thankful for your kindness and your generosity. We are so aware that we are so fortunate and every-time we use these pillows we are reminded of just that! :)”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. DeMartini

  • Cushion your learning!

    Funded Nov 28, 2022

Thank you so much for giving us new flexible seating in the classroom! We were able to purchase 6 cushions and 6 cases! The students LOVE to sit on these cushions and work around the room. They are easily maneuvered and provide so much opportunity for the kids who need a break from their desk!

I love seeing students self monitoring and knowing when it is time to change seats (with my permission of course). It refocuses them and lets them know that learning can take place wherever, as long as they are engaged and focused! This flexible seating allows them to do just that.

Again, thank you very much for adding such a crucial new element to our classroom!”

  • Bare Books For ALL!

    Funded Oct 26, 2022

Thank you SO much for the generous donation of bare books! These are a crucial part of one of our biggest projects in 8th Grade! We have been corresponding and writing letters to a loved one, or important person, for the past 4 months! As the project comes to a close, we are able to assemble all the letters into the bare books, creating a memory to last a lifetime!

Students were able to share their creativity by organizing letters in the way that they enjoyed and that represented their feelings on the projects! Some students even included wonderful pieces of poetry!

Thank you for giving us this wonderful opportunity!”

  • Hooked on the Book!

    Funded Oct 5, 2022

Thank you again SO much for your very generous donation! We were able to reach 90+ students through your generosity! They were so excited to receive new book titles for our Social Issues Unit! It gave students an opportunity to choose a book of high interest; student choice is so important, especially in middle school! These students were so engaged and had really wonderful conversations as a book club!

Students were able to read both in their groups and independently. It met a lot of students' needs across the board! The book clubs held students accountable to read, which fostered really great conversation and reflection.

I know the students LOVED the unit and we were all SO thankful to add so many exciting and relevant new titles. I am already looking forward to next year!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. DeMartini

  • Pull Up a Seat!

    Funded Dec 1, 2021

Thank you so much for the generous donation to our classroom! We were able to order four stools AND a bench! The students love to use the stools around the classroom, as well as sit on them at our work table! Students also love the "reading bench" as well. We added some pillows!

I think it is always so important to continue not only building new curriculum, but also finding new ways to accommodate students and create an inviting atmosphere in the classroom. They get so excited when they see I have added new things, ESPECIALLY something that is useful and they can use daily!

Again, we really appreciate your generosity!

    :)”

  • Book Clubs!

    Funded Oct 21, 2021

I (we) wanted to thank you again for your extreme generosity! We received over 200 books and enough to share with other 6th grade classes for our Social Issues Unit! We run this unit as a book club, so it has been so fun giving students over 20 options of books to choose from! The smiles on their faces during discussions say it all!

Students have told me that rather than being given a whole class novel, they enjoy being given the choice! I think this right there is a big part of 6th Grade, especially as they approach 7th Grade!

All in all, book clubs are the best time of year, ESPECIALLY NOW! We will always remember your kindness and we will steward your generosity well!

    :)”

  • Reading Isn't a Lost Art!

    Funded Oct 10, 2019

On behalf of my students and me, we wanted to thank you for providing us with new reading material. We were able to put around 30+ new books in the library and we are so thrilled to have so many new reading options!

Everyday when students come in to class they are allotted around 15 minutes of class time to read. It thoroughly brings me joy when I see students reading throughout that entire time, as well as being upset when I ask them to put their books down! This truly shows me that students are enjoying to read, and are enjoying the books provided by your generosity.

Thank you again for your continued support. While you are not able to be in the classroom and see the impact you have made, I am thanking you and letting you know that you truly are making a difference! Many blessings to you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. DeMartini

Reading surely is not a lost art! This year I am highly emphasizing reading and hoping to fill a classroom library that will instill a lifelong love of reading! I have decided to do a "30 Book Challenge" and challenge my students in the volume of their reading. The research suggests that when students read in higher capacities at appropriate reading levels, their vocabulary acquisition and comprehension skills are directly impacted and strengthened. Unfortunately, the current state of my classroom library is just not able to adequately support this challenge. With this grant, I am hoping to build up my library with all different genres and authors! Middle School is a really great time of exploration; I want to give my students a chance to explore in the realm of reading; what they like, what they are curious about, and what excites them! This is why I have included books from different genres including: Historical Fiction, Realistic Fiction, Fantasy, Action/Adventure, and Nonfiction, as well as different Lexile Reading Levels. I am hoping that students will explore new titles and read some books that they normally would not have chosen! I want to do my part and support their exploration and growth as young readers. We will be so blessed by this donation not only this year, but in many school years to come!
