Writing is a critical subject area in third grade and I strive to help my students become more proficient. I am always looking for ways to improve my whole group instruction and guide my students to complete tasks independently. I am lucky to have a large white board in my classroom which I use throughout my daily teaching. However, I often regret the inability to save written notes, whole class writing, and charts I have created as learning tools. After modeling the writing process during a lesson last year, I realized that I had my back turned towards my class and my body was blocking the words I wrote.
I need an easel to use while teaching writing, so children can watch me closely during the thinking and writing process and I can observe students' engagement and understanding. I will use the easel in all subjects. It will be a fun, active learning station to incorporate during guided math and reading times, when students are expected to work independently while I meet with small groups. I know my students will love practicing spelling, math, writing and drawing on a classroom easel. Please consider helping our class get an easel. Thank you!
