My students need a safe place to sit during instruction time. A rug with an even amount of space for each child would be beneficial for so many reasons. The main reason being that it provides a safe, individual space for them to sit during instructional time. It will serve as a gentle reminder to keep hands and feet to our selves during our time of learning, sharing and discussion. This will help remove many distractions! Their spots are not consistent, because they are moved or disappear and it makes things a little hectic when we are transitioning to "learning at the carpet." Right now, I use small strips of Velcro on the floor to mark their spot. Sadly, these strips of Velcro are easily moved and often sucked up by the vacuum when the cleaning crew comes to clean in the evenings. It is not ideal.
