These basic art supplies will enable our creative art students to continue creating and learning remotely. In addition to the effects and challenges of Covid 19, our district suffered a major storm called a derecho. This storm damaged many of our buildings so much that all middle and senior high schoolers must school remotely from home. During times of stress, humanity turns to the arts in order to express our emotions, find peace and build strength through community. These materials are the tools they will need to express themselves in their chosen art class. For some, it will be a drawing class. The charcoal, erasers and sharpies will be a welcome addition to any # 2 pencil they might find at home as they explore new styles and methods of mark making. For others in sculpture class, the modeling clay will give them a glimpse into the wonderful tactile possibilities of clay. Students will be given an art kit with these supplies at the beginning of the term. Securing supplies on their own is a challenge and burden for many in our diverse community. I know their faces will light up as they receive their kits and know that they will have their own art tools in whatever working space they choose - available at all times!
