  • Calming Areas

    Funded May 23, 2024

Thank you so much for fulfilling our Calming Area project! The twinkle lights and the couch added a cozy touch to our classroom that was missing before. It has made a remarkable difference in how the kids started their school year. They walked in calmer and more present, and it's because of the atmosphere that your donations have created! The group picture is from the first day of school, and (I kid you not) all the kids went straight to their seats and sat down for me within the first 3 minutes!

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. My kids love their classroom. My former students have even commented on the blue couch and said, "Hey, I wish we had that when I was in your class!" or "Look, you have twinkle lights!"

THANK YOU FOR MAKING THE KIDS HAPPIER. YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN OUR WORLD.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Wong

  • Showcase My Students Best Work

    Funded Jan 10, 2023

Thank you for your generous and amazing donations to our classroom! My students were so proud to show off their work and creations for Open House, as you can tell by their smiles! Their work was displayed in beauteous fashion all over the walls of our classroom. They made Greek vases with the Model Magic Clay and displayed their Greek Mythology writing on colorful sleeves. Open House was a huge success. And we're not done yet. At the end of the year, my students are looking forward to each taking home a neat portfolio binder showcasing their unique writing and projects for the year.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for giving our students the opportunity to share their best work and to have a keepsake to fondly remember their year of learning and growing!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Wong

  • Nature's Fascinating Partnerships

    Funded May 29, 2020

Thank you so much for contributing to our classroom library! Although we are not physically in the classroom, the Animal Partnerships book are projected on my visualizer for my students to see and read. They especially love the book "How to Clean a Hippopotamus" about how hippos offer turtles protection and recreation by allowing the coldblooded turtles to laid on their backs and sunbathe, while the turtle cleans the hippos' water plants and algae off the hippos' backs. The sea anenome/clown fish relation reminds my kids of the a favorite movie, "Finding Nemo". The students love the meticulous illustrations in each book.

Animal Partnerships teach us that we can learn from our environment and they remind us that even though we are inside our homes and can sometimes feel isolated, there is a whole world outside that we can take inspiration from.

This is a particularly unusual time in history, and it's during these times when people either seek shelter under their own individual interests (by choice or necessity) or give to others. We are so incredibly grateful that you have chosen to donate to our young people's education!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Wong

  • Robotics and Coding

    Funded Sep 20, 2019

Thank you for bringing ozobots to our classroom! We love them! Our students are learning coding through color blocks and we have begun using the app to learn the Ozoblocky language.

The ozobots add engagement and enrichment to the content that we are learning. It's fun and engaging for all our students. They learn the connection between technology, literature, science, and math. One of our first projects was drawing the digestive system (including the esophagus, stomach, large intestine, and small intestine) with the ozobot following its digestive path through the body. Ozobots act immediately on the student's code, which gives them realtime feedback as to whether or not their code works!

My students have really warmed up to the ozobots. They are coming up with their own ideas for how to use them. Some students have even given them names and call them "friends". Thank you for this amazing opportunity to enhance our second-grade classroom and bring us into the 21st century with robotics and programming!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Wong

  • Let's Keep Organized!

    Funded Aug 23, 2018

Thank you so much for giving to our Donor's Choose project. We initially asked for classroom organizers, and although one of them could not be delivered, we were so pleased to hear that we could receive replacement products. Thanks to your generous donations, our students are receiving a class set of Magic Tree House Books about an adventurous brother and sister duo who travel in time to historically significant locations. One of my students wrote, "I love learning while Jack and Annie are on their missions", while another said, "I hope lots of people will love them as much as me." As a teacher, I want to instill the love of reading in all of my students and I am so grateful for your support in our children's literacy! Since "Dinosaurs Before Dawn" is the first book in the series, I'm hoping to get our students hooked on all the other chapter books!

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Wong

  • Start the Year Off Right!

    Funded Aug 23, 2018

Wow! We can't thank you enough for supporting our Donors Choose project. The students absolutely love all of their supplies, from the markers/pens to the clay and the rekenreks. We use our pencil pouches every day to keep our pencils, erasers, and other classroom supplies in. One student hilariously wrote, "Without our pencil cases our classroom would have so many pencils on the floor!" Truth!

If you're wondering what are rekenreks, think of them as old school abacuses. One student says, "They are a really good [tool] for our math sprints. Also I really like the way they sound when you tip it over." Anything that helps my students enjoy their learning is invaluable!

We look forward to using the clay for an end of year project-based learning assignment. When we study erosion, I told my students that we would make Mt. Rushmore with our clay, so if you get letters saying that the kids can't wait to make mountains, you'll know why!

Your donations have helped us have a fantastic start to the school year, and they will take us through to the end of the year. We are so grateful to have such wonderful people like you in the world!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Wong

  • iNeed iPads Now!

    Funded Nov 29, 2016

We are delighted! Thank you to our Room 15 families: the Audouy, Roberts, and Shaub families for giving so generously to our classroom iPad project! Also, thank you to the kindness of our newly befriended benefactor Martha Henderson of Beverly Hills, and our two anonymous donors from New York and Northridge! Our hearts are warmed from the thought that there are such good people (all over the country) who are willing to give to our school and children.

We are happy to say that our iPads came immediately after this project was fully funded. Such efficiency on the part of DonorsChoose.org! Our lab tech loaded the new iPads with reading and math apps and now we are using them almost daily in our classroom rotations.

Having two extra iPads in the classroom has been helpful because it allows students more time to access the learning programs. In the week that we received our devices, 95% of my students met their weekly recommended minutes of software use and targeted instruction to increase the likelihood of meeting the end-of-year benchmark, which is up from 64% the previous week. Also, having these devices in rotation allows me to see small groups for targeted instruction, while assuring that the rest of the class is making productive use of their time, since I get online reports of individual student progress.

We wish you all a happy holiday season! Thank you so much on behalf of myself and my 22 wonderful young scholars!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Wong

  • Let's Get Charged Up!

    Funded Sep 9, 2016

    Dear Kind Donors,

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for fulfilling our first Donors Choose project! We are off to a great start to the new school year because of your generous donations. We are so happy to receive the donations of the new tablet charging station, headphones, adapters, engineering books, laser pointer, stationery, labels, and many more.

Before we got our tablet charging station, we only have a couple of available outlets. This usually meant that we had to start charging these devices the day before or the morning before. This charging station provides a safe and central location for students to plug in their tablets. The donations from this project improve our classroom and this charging station ensures that our learning devices are ready to go for our learning groups stations. My students will have equal access to this technology, and we can't wait to get into the full swing of things.

Thanks to the families who donated iPads for our classroom. iPads enable us to connect with the world in new ways and build literacy, math and technological skills. Our school has purchased licenses for LEXIA and ST Math apps and we want to fully utilize these teaching resources, too, any chance we get. It's especially important because, since not all students have equal access to these apps at home, students can also log in their minutes at school.

Again, thank you so much for your generosity! Our small public school thrives because of the help of amazing people like you!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Wong
