Scholastic magazines will motivate my students to become actively engaged in the world they will enter as adults. Seventh-grade students have strong opinions but usually, they are not authentic instead are those of parents, teachers or friends. Reading Scholastic magazines will provide fodder for students to shape their own opinions and provide supportive reasoning to back up their opinions. The stories in Scholastic magazines along with the included online components give students practice reading, builds comprehension, increases vocabulary and strengthens writing skills. Students will develop opinions supported by evidence. More importantly, students become actively engaged in what is going on in the world. Using computer science, students will create a project focused on making the world a better place.
