I teach in a very high need, low socioeconomic elementary school where over 73% of our students qualify for a free and reduced lunch rate. Three quarters of my students are English Language Learners who come from homes where access to technology is not always available. I understand that many factors affect the achievement gap of various student groups. Apparently, low socioeconomic status generally tends to indicate limited educational resources and, unfortunately, facing budget cuts every year has certainly made it more and more difficult to reach the needs of all my students. Yet, they show up everyday and try their best to learn our language and culture. My students are great and they deserve the very best.
