My 150 students are currently using these resources in my classroom to complete the final lab report on Heat of Combustion of candle wax. The students were very grateful to receive the Quill brand copy paper, which is being used to write their rough drafts; The letter size folders are being used to keep all their group work; the three-hole punch is being used to make holes in the paper to attach to their binders; the envelopes were used to put their "thank you" notes for this Donors choose project; the easel post-it self-adhesive was used to write the final lab poster which included a Title, Purpose, Procedure, Data Tables/Results, and a Conclusion, which was complete with a Question/Analysis portion of the lab report. Overall, The students were very grateful to receive this shipment from Donors Choose.org and I am so happy that I was funded a third time from this organization. My deepest heartfelt thanks goes out to everyone.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Quinn

My students are using these resources to enhance the learning that take place in my chemistry class. The pencils and pencil sharpener are important for my students to be able to write their lab reports for the experiments that are conducted in the class. The balancing kits are very important to help the students understand the concept of balancing equations. The kits include small colored square that represent different elements that combine to form compounds that can be balanced in an equation. My students were so grateful when they saw the equipment that arrived and were excited to get started using all the new resources. The next steps for my students are using the balancing kits to review balancing equations for their final exam the end of May. The pencils are used on a daily basis to complete all the writing assignments that are required for this course.”
My students have used the kitchen balances to perform the Fundamentals of Experimental Design experiment in which they are required to take the mass of sodium bicarbonate and calcium chloride and observe how these two chemicals interact with phenol red solution. The lab hand out was made from the copy paper that was given to my students from DonorsChoose.org. My students were excited to receive these materials and happy to be able to engage in hands on lab activities using the donated equipment. The next steps will be to use the equipment to conduct their own experiment using different amounts of each chemical and observe any changes that may have occurred. Also, my students will be using the balances for other experiments involving taking the mass of chemicals and observing the changes that occur when the chemicals are mixed together, heated, or reacted in some way.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Quinn

The paper and scales will provide my students with the tools necessary to carry out chemistry lab activities and STEM activities that are crucial to learning scientific concepts. LAB equipment such as balances are required to mass various items from the chemistry activities to the nearest .01 gram. Students will be able to learn how to gather quantitative data and perform such operations as percent composition and percent recovery. Copy paper is also an essential part of the learning experience as students require copies of pertinent labs, periodic tables, and informational items such as equations/conversions in order to become successful in the classroom.
