My students this year are much busier than some of the classes I have had in the past. I usually carefully place students that need to move more toward the back and on the sides of the room so they are free to stand up, sit on their feet, or fidget whenever they feel the need. The problem this year is that I have too many fidgeting students to maintain this setup. We have a few activity tables and floor space where they are allowed to work independently and with groups, but during whole group time and testing, I need them in their desks and paying attention. Students need an outlet to expend energy without bothering themselves or others. I have a neighbor teacher on third grade hall that began using Bouncy Bands on some of her desks a couple of years ago. I have seen first hand how the repetitive motion helps students who struggle to focus on their tasks. I would like to have an entire classroom set, because I believe all students could benefit from this tool.
