  • Hands-on Work Helps Us Learn!

    Funded Oct 23, 2019

Using new hands on materials are key to helping my students interact with their curriculum. We learn in so many different ways, but using hands on materials is what is the key to our success. Targeting sensory needs for my students helps them to focus, and access their education. Kinetic sand, play dough, special chairs and more all are necessary to how we need to set ourselves up for our learning day. We need all different kinds of input to make sure that we are getting our bodies ready to learn.

Thank you for helping make that possible.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. O'Brien

This classroom project was brought to life by Chevron Fuel Your School.
  • Flying Towards our Reading Goals at Home!

    Funded Sep 19, 2020

During distance learning your help made it possible to me to bring my classroom into the home of my students. We were able to perform small reading groups with our new materials just like we would if we were learning in-person.

My students have limited verbal ability, but they love to read! Through our small groups and with the help of parents at home we were able to reach our reading goals! That was something I wasn't sure I was going to be able to make happen in this learning model.

Thank you for helping to make that possible.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. O'Brien

  • Sensory Extravaganza!

    Funded Aug 20, 2018

Thank you so much for your donation to our classroom! My students use our sensory items everyday - and it has greatly impacted our ability to learn and focus on working towards goals. So much of the day is making sure that sensory diets are met so that we can be able to sit and learn - that can be very difficult when you don't have the right materials or access to the appropriate items. I can't express how thankful we are for your generosity and kindness, you are thought of everyday as we move about our classroom and we are able to do the very best for our students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. O'Brien

Autistic students need sensory items in order to regulate their bodies to be able to learn. Swinging, spinning, and smooshing sand, all of these inputs can help focus an Autistic student and help them to navigate through their day. A new swing will help some of my younger less able students receive the input they need before starting to sit down for work. Kinetic sand helps to soothe a student who is having a hard time, giving them an appropriate way to calm their body and rejoin the class. Many of my students will be unable to focus and complete a task unless they are given an item that will motivate them to continue working.
