Many of my students are unable to stay in their general education classroom when they become frustrated or upset. By taking my teaching to the next level with the Feeling Buddies Curriculum, my goal is to help my students pivot their perception, learning that no one can make you angry without your permission. This will allow them to own their upset and work through it in a brain smart way, teaching composure. Composure will allow them to access the higher centers of their brains, facilitating learning. The Feeling Buddies Curriculum will provide lessons, visuals, and materials to help educate students to understand how their brain works when feeling intense emotions, how to work through those feelings in more effective ways, and will allow us to work on generalizing these skills into their general education classrooms. This will allow them to be present for more learning not only physically, but emotionally and mentally. This will also benefit countless general education students by reducing disruptions, increasing community, and in turn, increasing learning.
