My fourth grade students attend a public school in California. They come from very diverse backgrounds and each has a rich family history. After all the research and studying of California's history, we finally turn our attention to how their family ended up in California. Many of my students' parents were born in another country, others in a different state. This ends up being one of the most rewarding projects since they learn so much about their own family.
