Family Game Night...Classroom Version
Funded Sep 23, 2021We have had a few "Game Nights" because of you. The students really enjoyed playing new games. The class learned how to really play games like Connect Four and not just create designs with the game pieces. Some students learned how to read game instructions, explain those instructions to players, and then make sure the game was being played correctly. They got to try new strategies and learn how to take turns. There were even a few rough moments when problem solving skills were used! Now our class can build on taking turns and listening to others to enjoy more tournament style learning.”

Funded Aug 14, 2019My students were thrilled when they first saw the materials. The box was opened and the kids were overwhelmed with joy! The students love the hands on materials. During small group time they get to build using blocks and architectural materials. Math and science are used in real life applications and my students are learning why it is important to not only learn math and science but work with each other. After building, the class gets to discuss the challenges they faced and the different ways they overcame them. These donated materials have allowed my class to also work on the social element of the learning and application process. Thank you for allowing my class to play, build, dream and learn.”

Funded Jun 25, 2019Freckle Juice was an amazing addition to our classroom. The students loved reading their first chapter book. We read one chapter everyday and learned many skills that will hopefully create life long readers. We learned to dig deep and analyze characters and perspective. We discussed character motivation along with other story elements such as setting and plot. My class was able to make predictions and learn all about anticipation. We read the book and the end of each chapter was treated like a cliffhanger from a television show which lead to great discussions. This book allowed these little learners to put their thoughts on paper because we also made text connections and wrote about them. We learned to not only "like" a book but understand why we enjoy it and how we can compare it to other books and even events in our own lives.
Reading in our classroom can sometimes be difficult because we all learn in different ways and are not on the same level. Reading Freckle Juice with our eyes and having the audio play to keep everyone on track was a rare treat. Struggling readers and advanced readers were allowed to hear fluent reading with different character voices.
The whole class enjoyed having their very own book to hold and read!”
