I can’t wait to read this book with my students and cultivate a love for reading in my classroom. When it comes to reading books with my students it is important to provide them with a story they can connect with. This book will act as a reference tool throughout the year. This book will allow me to model for students habits of good readers. It will also act as a mentor text when introducing new concepts such as theme and plot. This will also prepare my students for literature circles/ book clubs after the first 6 weeks. I will be able to model expectations and discussions with my students before releasing them to do so in small groups. Additionally, students will see similar struggles among characters like them. Children desire acceptance and belonging. They want to be a part of the world around them. Therefore, students can develop positive self-images by identifying with the characters like them in the stories.
