In December one of my students was hit by a car walking home from school. He was in critical condition, not breathing on his own for several days and in the hospital for several weeks. He was finally released sustained a traumatic brain injury that he will be learning to cope with for the rest of his life. This little champion has been back in school and rocking it. We were warned seizures are a common side effect of his type of brain injury. We were lucky enough to go several weeks before the seizures began. This past week he had to be transported via ambulance to the hospital due to prolonged and/or repeated seizures. After the first seizure I thought I would get lamps and turn off the bright overhead lights. Unfortunately schools fire code requires us to use LED light bulbs in our lamps. I tired soft white LED bulbs but he still mentioned that these lights were too bright. Through much research on the fire code mandated LED bulbs, I have found that they all produce this same white light, with the exception of the Phillips Hue which has an ambient white bulb which will allow me to use my phone to dim the lights and turn the color to a warm yellow. Unfortunately these bulbs are expensive and require a hub to be plugged into the wall. I would do anything for my students but this is a price tag I cannot bare alone. Anything helps! Thank you!
