  • Reinventing the Notebook

    Funded Aug 23, 2018

We are so grateful for your donation to our classroom!

When my classes first opened up their boxes, they were so impressed and excited at how much thought and planning was put into them. It was obvious they deeply appreciated the fact that these supplies were specifically designed for them to be organized - a critical component to successful learning!

We use the table supplies daily! As soon as class starts, students dive into their table supplies and grab what they need, enabling them to have a successful start to class. Throughout class, they are provided with diagrams, cut-outs, and other materials that are designed to be taped/pasted into their notes. This structure allows students to have well organized notes and also the freedom to design their note pages in a way that makes sense to them. As you can see in the pictures, students utilize the highlighters to create visual cues to help them understand their note-taking. This creative way of taking notes gives students the space to engage in the material on a different level; they can take ownership of how their notes look and feel.

Your generosity is appreciated by the 100 students who use these materials every day as we strive for student-centered learning.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Tan

  • Student Centered Learning

    Funded Aug 24, 2018

My heartfelt gratitude for everyone who helped complete this project. We are really excited to have a Doc Cam for our classroom this year. We are hopeful that students will be just as excited and engaged at the opportunity to showcase their thinking process to the rest of the class! Stay tuned as I will be posting pictures of the Doc Cam in use.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Tan

Last year I borrowed a Doc Cam for the first time and guess who loved using them -- not me but my students! I would really like to bring this opportunity back to my classroom this year. My students love to take learning into their own hands and thrive when given leadership roles. That's why last year I tested out having students lead the class during our review sessions. They loved to post their work up using a Doc Cam to annotate and showing their learning process. Many ah-ha moments and student-to-student interactions were fostered with the help of this tool.
