A Reading Rug for Reading Rockstars
Funded Dec 10, 2011Having our beautiful new reading rug in our class has made such a difference in our classroom! Now, we no longer have to sit on and look at the ugly plywood floor. The reading rug has also become a great educational resource for my students. The rug is covered in a world map which shows the continents, and the placement and flags of about thirty different countries. My students love using the rug to look up where a country is located in the world or what their flag looks like. It is so wonderful seeing my students comfortably reading or finding new books while sitting on their lovely new rug. Thank you again for your support of our classroom! Your generous gift has helped make our classroom a much more colorful and welcoming place to be!”

Bean Bags for Books!
Funded Jul 29, 2011I want to share with you all my sincere thanks for your help with this project. My students absolutely love to curl up with a good book on their new comfy bean bag chairs. It really has made a huge difference in our classroom having the bean bags in our class library area. We now have a class VIP spot that rotates so that every student gets their turn on the bean bags. I also want to thank you for the classroom library labels. It is now much easier for my class to easily find a book of their interest, and they love helping me keep the library organized in our nicely labeled class library bins. This project has truly helped me provide more opportunities for my students to fall in love with reading, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. We love reading! Thank you!”

Funded Feb 14, 2011Thank you so much for supporting literacy in my classroom! The nonfiction books have helped to excite my students about reading and the wonders of the world. Whether they are reading about mummies, reptiles, or George Washington, the books have been wonderful to open their minds about so many things in the world around them. The leveled bins make it easy for a student to pick a book which not only interests him or her, but also easy to find a book that is on their reading level. Having these new books in our classroom has truly added a whole new dimension of interest in reading and learning this school year, and I truly can't wait for these books to be used for years to come. Funded Oct 17, 2010Thank you so much again for the wonderful support of our science project! We're currently studying cells, and it has been wonderful watching my students get so excited as we explore plant and animal cells using our new digital microscope. The cell kit is wonderful as well! I now have the hands-on materials that I need to keep my class interested and engaged in learning about cells and organisms.
The matter kit and fabulous interactive whiteboard software helped my class have a much better understanding of the states of matter, and they absolutely loved the small group activities that are included. It has made a huge difference in our study of science, having these extra resources so that we can cover state standards that we previously had no resources for. Finally, the science games are awesome! It's great that my students are begging to practice their science and use these wonderful science games when they finish their classwork.
I truly appreciate your support of our classroom, and my students are so grateful for the generous donations of science supplies. You have helped give us supplies that make science come to life in 5th grade!”

Young New Orleans Artists in the Making!
Funded Oct 18, 2010Your fabulous support of our art project has filled our classroom with color and joy! When the boxes arrived, the students were so excited to see what we had. We spread out all the paints, clay, paper, and more on the classroom floor, and they all took turns browsing with excitement their new art supplies. Now, we have the supplies we need to integrate art into our daily lessons. Our first big project was an English project, where my students created Idiom art to show the literal meaning common idioms that we use on a regular basis, in order to increase our understanding of figurative language. Now, the hallways are covered in their art, and they are all eagerly anticipating our next big project. Your donation has given us the resources that we could have never been able to afford on our own, and it is wonderful knowing that I can give my students the opportunity to explore their creative side while mastering skills in their core subjects. Thank you so much for supporting our classroom and helping us achieve success in 5th grade! ”

Bring Writing To Life In Writer's Workshop
Funded Sep 15, 2010Writing in our classroom has taken on a whole new dimension thanks to your wonderful support of my writing project. I'm so impressed with what my students have been able to accomplish in the short time that we have had the writing workshop materials. Now, every single day, we use the dry erase board for small group work, morning meeting, and workshop. We start each day by practicing editing the daily edit, and it has really helped my students learn to write better themselves by correcting the writing of others. Many of my students came to me writing below grade level, but your support of this project has helped me give them more of the resources they need to master their writing skills. Now, writing time is more productive and even more fun with our awesome writing center materials. Thank you so much for your support! It really means the world to my students that strangers care so much about them and their education. I can't wait to see how their writing will blossom as the year progresses! ”

Funded Sep 7, 2010It is with great excitement that I write to you about the impact that your donation to my math project has had already on my class. My students were so excited to get to learn and explore their new math games and resources. They eagerly volunteered to be group leaders so they could learn the new math games to teach their peers. Now, we have begun using the materials and I wish that I could show through this letter the smiles on their faces as they eagerly work on their math skills. Before, when they finished an assignment they were always asking to draw or read at their desks, now they are begging me to let them practice math skills with their new math games. With great joy they are practicing their basic skills and challenging themselves to learn more about math concepts that they haven't mastered yet. We have already started exploring fractions and geometry with challenging tangram puzzles! Math workshop now includes a computer work station where they have fun practicing skills using Math Blaster, and using the spinners and whiteboard interactive charts has really helped my class start to understand probability concepts. Even our mornings, transitions, and dismissal times are enriched with the great quiz questions on Brain Quest that we bring everywhere we go now for a quick challenge that they eagerly try to answer. This is only the beginning of a wonderful journey of math exploration in my classroom, and my students and I want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping us with our math project. Your generosity will be felt for years as I use these materials with each of my classes. Thank you again! ”
