Beginning in kindergarten, all students in my school take a course called Quest. In Quest, students participate in challenge-based learning units that are interdisciplinary, authentic, and purposeful. During these units, students learn by doing real work that real people do in real situations. Through this style of teaching, I get to do more than cover standards. I am teaching skills and concepts that my students will remember and use 20 years from now! These books will empower and equip students to live the life of real scientists by sparking their curiosity, guiding their research, and facilitating their experiments, ultimately helping them see how science can explain the mysteries of their world. Books like "This Book is a Planetarium," an incredible, eye-catching pop-up book, will capture students' imaginations and prompt them to wonder and ask questions about the way their world works. Other books like "The Big Fat Science Notebook" will provide my students with comprehensive resources to conduct research and find the answers to their questions. Finally, books like "Make Lab Outdoors" will provide ideas for hands-on exploration and experimentation so that students have the opportunity to learn by doing and see scientific concepts in action. Finally, these books are important because I plan to share them with other teachers in my building to help support Quest in grades k-5. This project will have a big impact on our future scientists!
