The use of whiteboards is almost a daily activity in my math classroom. Using the workshop model in math, students spend the majority of time in class exploring math concepts in small groups. Often, class concludes by sharing what students have learned, strategies they have used, or practice with new and similar problems. The whiteboards allow me to see exactly what strategies students are using, any common errors that may be happening with multiple students, and the whiteboards provide an easy place for students to show and share their work, whether working individually or with a partner or small group. The project includes white boards with grid lines, especially helpful in high school level math; dry erase markers in various colors to help focus on separate steps or individual contributions to a group answer; and erasers for students to quickly and efficiently move on to another problem.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student engagement and collaboration, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement. My students love to show their thinking and reasoning to solve problems; this project allows all students to work and show their work simultaneously rather than focusing on one or two students up at the classroom board at a time. By funding this project, you are helping to ensure that all students can focus on engaging in the content and learning from one another.
