Funded Sep 29, 2022Thank you so much for helping with this project. My partner and I make most of our resources so this will be a great way to get some great resources and help us differentiate with our student groups. TPT has so many great and fun ways to teach students new skills.”

Funded Aug 14, 2019I want to thank you for helping us fund our project for a bookcase. Because of the generosity of many donors like yourself, we have a lot of great books in our classroom library. However, we had no place to put the books for our students to be able to easily access them. We needed a bookcase badly.
The bookcase brings our library together and allows for the students to see the books neatly organized. With the bookcase, I am able to place the books on shelves that the students can reach. The organization of our library, enables me to put the books in bins for my students.”

Funded Apr 5, 2019Thank you for the books for my classroom library! My students were very excited to received and be able to have so many new and interesting books to choose from!
Many times, my students complain about not having good books to read. They have complained that the books look old or are boring. I created this project to reach those reluctant readers.
Thanks to your funding, my library is filled with great stories and new books that my students were happy about. Many of them want to read so much that i have to stop and remind them that it is time to move on to another subject. As a teacher my ultimate goal is to develop a love for reading in my students. Your contribution helps me instill that love of reading.”

Flexible Seating for Fabulous Students!
Funded Jul 10, 2019We absolutely love our library bench. It is placed in the front of the room, and helps to create a library nook. The students love to sit comfortably on it, with their peers during lessons and during independent reading time.
The first time my students saw the bench they were so excited! They couldn't believe they actually had a bench in their classroom; "I've never seen a bench like this in my classroom", "how did you get this, Ms. Avila?" They even argue (in a friendly way) over who gets to sit on it.
Thank you for helping create such a warm and inviting library with this new edition!”

Funded May 6, 2019Thank you for helping to fund this wonderful project. The biggest part of teaching reading is getting the students to actually read. It is the only way to improve their reading levels. One way I do this is by introducing them to really great stories that they can share in discussions about. I also pull small groups and it helps when we have the same text to discuss and compare. As we read in groups, I concentrate on one reading skill at a time. Some of the skills we work on are visualizing, stopping and jotting, making inferences and having reactions. Having fantasy books enables me to introduce them to a new genre where visualizing, making inferences, analyzing the characters problems and traits.
In my classroom, students read quietly at their desks or on the carpet. I have various areas in the classroom where students meet to read and discuss the books they are reading. Often times, you see my students curled up at the carpet reading and jotting their ideas on post-its or sitting together at a table with their peers or one of the teachers in the room.
I have many reluctant readers who enjoy reading these fantasy books. One young man, in particular claimed that he hated reading before I introduced him to the Secrets
of Doon series. The books are well written and entertaining. Thank you for helping me create book lovers.”

Funded Feb 28, 2019When we received our brand new, blue meeting table, you would've thought we won some valuable prize! In essence we did! The excitement in my students faces and reactions told a story of gratitude and excitement. "Oh my god this table is so nice!" "Where did you get it from?!" "I love the color and how big it is!" "Now we can meet comfortably!" are just a few of the statements straight from the mouths of my students.
During reading lessons, they "quarrel" over who gets to sit at the table with me. They sit and share ideas about their book. They write stories and essays, looking over each other; s work. It's amazing how something seemingly so small could mean so much to them.
I often sit back in amazement as they work in partnerships spread out across the table. Please know that this table means more to my kids than anyone, including myself, could've known. In a classroom filled with broken, uneven furniture that doesn't really match in height or color, this table stands out and looks amazing. My kids feel special and important. So thank you once again, from the bottom of our hearts!!”

KiKi, Do You Love Books, Are You Readin' ?
Funded Oct 25, 2018The books that were donated to our classroom have been a huge hit!! I keep them in a "special" place and treat them as a special treat! The students love going into the basket to choose from the many brand new books. Teaching reading is my passion. As a reading teacher, I model many different reading strategies that good readers use when they are reading. For example, I may read a story on the carpet or in small groups and model making text to self connections to what is happening in the story. Another strategy I teach my students is to place themselves in the characters shoes to experience their point of view. Most of all, I teach my students to love reading and cherish the stories that books hold inside of them.
In my classroom, reading looks like students gathered at our group meeting areas, the carpet or their desks with their favorite book in hand. You may even see a student sprawled out on the carpet just enjoying a book of choice. My students look engulfed in the books they are reading and often times you may catch them jotting down an idea on a post-it. I often meet with them to discuss their ideas, thoughts and reactions to what they are reading. Often, I simply listen to them read and offer encouragement and support when needed.
By nature, boys don't generally enjoy reading as much as my female students. However, my boys faces lit up when they saw books about sports and other characters that they could relate to. My girls, too are very excited. One student, in particular, who has been a little more "rambunctious" turned to me and said "this is a really great book!" I cannot express how that alone made my day. Please know that your donation means a lot to me and my students.”

Ms. Avila
