Art Supplies to Promote Student Voice!
Funded Dec 21, 2023Thank you so much for supporting the students at PS 19Q with their participatory budgeting campaign supplies! 5th grade students used the supplies to create campaign posters for the four top ideas generated by the student body. The campaign posters were displayed across the school so students could make an informed decision on how to vote.
Upon seeing the resources students said:
"I was very excited to use them! People started fighting over them in my class!"
"I liked the smell of the markers!" "My class worked together really nicely because we were so happy to be creative!" "Our posters stand out because of the glitter glue!"
Reflecting upon the posters they created with the supplies, students said that they were so proud of their work because participatory budgeting gave them a voice to make improvements in the school!”

Art Supplies to Promote Student Voice!
Funded Nov 30, 2022Thank you so much for your generous donation! This year, we had the exciting opportunity to take part in the New York City Civics for All Participatory Budgeting Project! Students were asked to vote to determine how best to allot the money we would be receiving, and then campaign for the final 4 ideas.
These posters, markers, and glitter glue pens were EXACTLY what we needed for the campaign. As a Title I school, and the largest elementary school in the country, it would have been difficult to obtain these supplies - and your generous donation made it happen.
Our students were so excited to see the materials and worked collaboratively to create the posters. This whole process has empowered our students so that they know they have a say in what happens in our school - and it could not have happened without your support.”

Funded Sep 29, 2022Thank you so much for your generous donation! The maps and globes were used by the 2nd and 3rd graders for multiple Social Studies lessons and activities. For example, 2nd grade students had their first introduction to US maps and were able to complete a scavenger hunt of locations with partners. Many of our 3rd graders had never seen a globe up close and used the globes to learn more about the world, and share what they saw, wondered, and what questions they had.
The students were so excited when they saw the materials. Many had only worked with photocopies of maps and had never seen a globe. Having the ability to physically interact with these tools with other classmates was new and thrilling for them.
Our next steps are going deeper into US and world geography. 2nd grade students will be learning about the continents and oceans and 3rd grade students will be using the maps and globes to support their study of world cultures. Thank you so much for providing materials to support their learning!”

Funded Aug 11, 2020Thank you so much for your generous donations. Thanks to you, my students were able to start off the year with the basic supplies they needed. This also helped their parents save money - a huge help to members of a community hit hard by COVID-19.
The students were so excited to hear that they had their own personal set of supplies to use, and use them every day they attend school. It has been a big help to their in-class teachers to know that there would be no sharing of supplies and from Day 1 each student would be prepared.
Thank you again for helping my class start the year off right!”

Funded Dec 27, 2019Thank you so much for the wonderful sight word games and colorful cushions! Students are so excited about using them during the reading period, and tell me how much fun the games are and how comfortable the cushions feel. It has made them feel even more excited about reading time in my classroom!
The students were so curious about the boxes when they arrived and couldn't wait for me to open them! They clapped and cheered when I took out the games and cushions and were especially thrilled at the bright colors!
My next steps for the students is to increase their stamina in reading and extend the reading period. The resources will help them be comfortable and motivated as they grow in their reading levels!”

Classroom Basics for Fabulous First Graders!
Funded Aug 24, 2018Thank you so much for your generous contributions! Students were so excited to see the big box of supplies arrive in the classroom and were so grateful that people they didn't even know wanted to help out Class 1C2!
I have 30 students in my class at the moment, and with the changing weather it is so important for them to work in a clean and healthy environment. The soap and Clorox wipes have been a very big help so far in ensuring that our classroom is as free of germs as possible!
We have been using the bright colored copy paper and markers in our classroom for projects to help support the concept of leadership and being proactive. The students used the sharpies to work collaboratively on posters demonstrating how they can show the trait of leadership in different places in the school. They truly enjoyed working together and using the colorful markers to create their own posters to remind themselves and others how leaders act in a school environment. After listening to and discussing the classic story, The Little Engine That Could, they used the bright paper to create a class train of what they think they can do to be proactive just like the Little Engine.
I am currently a participant in a service learning institute through the NYC Department of Education. The next steps for my students will be creating a service project where they give back to the community in some way - just as you did for our class, and the students will be using the materials to help them with this endeavor.
Thank you so much for all of your support and kindness!”
