I think flexible seating would give my students an opportunity to be comfortable and take some control over how they learn. Right now I just have a small carpet and some pillows, and they love to be able to go to the carpet. Research has shown that flexible seating works in the classroom. Students enjoy learning more. They have more control and lessons are more student based. They tend to be more focused and excited about school. Love to see the learning! Flexible seating takes students out from behind rows of desks and lets them choose from a variety of seating options. I am looking into making what I can, but some items still need to be purchased in order to be efficient with flexible seating. Students are able to have some control over their physical and mental conditions in which they work best. How awesome is that! There will be some rules to follow but students will begin to develop life-long skills such as: problem solving, flexibility, creatively, collaboration, autonomy, and self reflection. I would love to see the motivation and increased engagement research says flexible seating provides. I am asking for wobble chairs, soft floor seats, lap desk, bean bags, comfy floor pillows, wobble cushions, a low table, and a balance ball. Some items I am only asking for one to see if my students like it. These items will be used in various areas of the classroom within view of my smart board. Students will be able to choose each day. The floor seats have a texture on the top that will help the students who fidget or just need to touch something. The wobble chairs will give them a way to move while still sitting. The floor desk can be moved around.
