The way to become a better reader is to read! All beginning readers are so excited to start reading "chapter books." Second graders feel like they are successful readers once they have reached this milestone. By using a much beloved children's chapter book, Mercy Watson to the Rescue, by Kate DiCamillo, to spark the love of chapter books students will find success at all reading levels. To accomplish this achievement students will be divided into groups and assigned a teacher to find the best fit for their ability. After reading, discussing and acting out parts of this book, to foster comprehension, this cherished chapter book will belong to each student. We'll use this book to ignite the passion of reading for their second grade year!
