  • Color Printing: A Kindergarten Essential

    Funded May 5, 2020

    Thank you SO much for your generous donation to help the K209 students learn in COLOR! While the pandemic caused schools to close last spring, we patiently waited until this fall for our brand new printer! Once school began this year, we were eager to begin printing!

    Our printer is now ready to use and the children love to see the brightly colored materials! They are delightfully engaged each time we reveal a new colorful material! Hearing children exclaim, "Look how pretty it is!" as each material is unveiled is so heartwarming, and I'm so grateful that, with your help, we're able to bring such happiness into their learning.

    As we transition back to fully remote learning, I'm excited to be able to upload materials in color for students who have accessible printers in their homes! I'm also excited to be able to share colorful materials over the screen, as I know it will add joy to our meetings.

  • Math Games Galore!

    Funded Feb 13, 2020

    Thank you so much for giving so generously to our classroom grant for math games! When the boxes of games arrived, our school family coordinator brought them to our room. The children cheered and asked if it was someone's birthday! It was especially delightful for all of us to share the joy of receiving gifts together! The children hugged and cheered and then quickly began plotting which game they wanted to try first.

    We were able to play with the games for a full month before we transitioned to remote learning. Through the entire month, the children's excitement only seemed to grow. One little boy began asking if it was "math time yet" after each subject area. The children also took to playing the games at play time! It was so wonderful to see the children learning so much in such a joyful and authentic way.

    With school being cancelled for the rest of this year, I'm excited for next year when new students will get to spend an entire year with these games! It's comforting to know that such joyful experiences together await. Thank you again for giving so generously. We are so grateful!!”

  • We Like to Wiggle While We Work!

    Cheers could be heard through the halls, as the children erupted with excitement over our brand new box of tools! The children were thrilled to explore each tool in the box and find one that helped them learn! Together, they tested out learning while seated on a wiggly cushion that provided just enough movement to help them focus or a using a fidgit spinner to keep their hands busy while the I was demonstrating the new learning. It was inspiring to see the children determine which tool helped them the most so mindfully, yet joyfully. The children also couldn't wait for reading time, when they could read into the phones which echoed their voice back to them. Our reading stamina jumped from 5 minutes to a whole 15 minutes just by allowing students to listen to themselves read! Perhaps the most useful (and most fun) of all though, was the red bosu spinner. During play time on rainy, indoor recess days, the children were able to give each other "rides." They took turn spinning each other around, really allowing each other to joyfully release all of their extra energy so that when the time to focus returned, they were ready. These tools have been absolutely essential in helping our youngest learners focus on important learning, while still meeting their physical needs and managing all of their energy and excitement. Thank you so much for giving so generously. You've truly made our classroom a better place!”

Kindergarteners are passionate, curious, and active learners. They love to wiggle and move as they learn with their whole body. These materials will provide students with opportunities to move and build core strength as their mind stays focused on the academics! As adults, we often like to twirl pens or chew gum when trying to focus, the Gyrobi hand figits allow kindergarteners the same opportunity in an age-appropriate and fun way. The bouncy bands and seat cushions allow students to wiggle safely in their space as they learn to read and write! On rainy days, the rock around and hop ball will be perfect breaks for students seeking a release for their extra energy. Providing students with materials that incorporate movement into learning will help students stay engaged and learn at optimum levels. Often times, transitions between subjects can be challenging for students, as they need to reset their mind and concentrate on a new subject. With the yoga cards, we'll be able to take fun and meaningful breaks between activities so that students are able to enter the new subject with renewed energy and focus. Helping students joyfully achieve their best is our classroom's goal, and we know we can meet our goal with these movement materials!
