My students love to read and need resources that will create higher order thinking and be rigorous enough to help them do well on the end of year exams. Being a Title I school, we are lacking in our resources. Storyworks was previously used in our schools, but we will not have it this year. To become good readers, students must have adequate materials that will help them think on a higher level, form opinions, and react to what they have read. I am a new teacher this year and lack resources that other seasoned teachers have to pull from. I do not want my students to suffer due to lack of funding. If my students each have a subscription to Storyworks, they will have their own texts in which they are able to annotate and make connections with. Currently, they share a basal reading book between 2 classes. They are unable to highlight, text mark, or keep the stories for later reference. Storyworks works well with the standards we are teaching the students. They would be able to compare/contrast different texts and search through different articles looking for main ideas, themes, and make inferences from. These are all skills students are tested on and need to practice daily. Storyworks will help my students grow as readers, and they will have the confidence to participate in class discussions regarding the engaging texts that Storyworks delivers.
