  • A Byte-Sized Bunch of Cookies Learning Reading and Math

    Funded Apr 16, 2019

IPADs and Chromebooks have been a fantastic addition to your classroom. I wish I had the money to buy more. Our current IPADs are old and are very difficult to work with. I would like to write another grant to get some more for our classroom.

We are using the IPAD to work on instructional i-Ready and Spelling City. We have also downloaded some programs to help our students learn readiness skills.

My students have been excited about the new equipment. We also wrote a grant for cooking equipment. We are having a wonderful time cooking in our classroom this year.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Wysocki

  • Race for the Stars With Technology

    Funded Mar 19, 2019

We are currently using our IPAD for iReady diagnostic testing, and instructional lessons. We can't begin to thank you enough for funding our project. Our students have shown significant progress in the areas of reading and math. If we didn't have the IPAD, it would be very difficult to complete the diagnostic and instructional activities.

We are currently looking to get two Chromebooks funded through Donors Choose. We hope to get this funded before the year comes to an end.

We have some more ideas for the next school year.

    With Gratitude,

    Miss Wysocki”

  • The Boys Who Wanted to Cook

    Funded Dec 19, 2018

We started using our cooking equipment, and we thank everyone for your donations. Our students are very excited.

Our Valentine's Day party was a lot of fun. We made heart shaped cookies and strawberry milkshakes. The students enjoyed pouring the ingredients into the blender to prepare their own milkshakes. We used our toaster oven to make our heart shaped cookies. Then the students spread strawberry frosting on top. As shown in one of our photos, my students enjoyed licking the frosting off the top of the cookie.

One of our students had a birthday on February 21st. We made a no-bake cake using the mixer. We used a graham cracker crust, made chocolate pudding, and whipped cream for the topping. First, we went over some vocabulary words and found the supplies we needed. Each student was given the opportunity to help put the ingredients together and hold the mixer.

We made little pizzas using our toaster oven. We worked on sequencing and building vocabulary. Our principal was in for a visit and enjoyed the activity as well.

For Dr. Seuss week we read the book Green Eggs and Ham and then we made green eggs and ham using our electric skillet.

    Thanks again!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Wysocki

We will use a variety of cooking equipment to teach basic math skills such as measurement. Using measuring cups and spoons will help students work on simple fractions. Reading simple recipes and identifying vocabulary words related to cooking will assist students with their functional reading skills. Sequencing is another skill we can incorporate in cooking activities. Cooking is a necessity in everyone's life. All children need to learn the basic skills of cooking. They can become actively involved in the entire process of reading and preparing a simple recipe. Cooking with kids can be motivating, exciting and keeps them busy.
