  • Writers for Life

    Funded Aug 11, 2024

We have certainly gotten so much use from our writing materials! This group of students was somewhat less prepared for writing at grade level than I had expected, so we took a little more time to get used to using all our items.

The folders are the best resource young writers could have. My students are able to keep their writing pieces organized and the hints and reminders printed on the folders are an important support.

Having enough paper, pens, and highlighters to write, edit, and rewrite easily has been a wonderful experience, and helps the students understand the importance of drafting work before publishing a final copy.

We appreciate your support of our class, and continue to be thankful!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cole

  • Supplying 3rd Grade with Materials

    Funded Aug 10, 2022

The file folder games are a hit! My students love when I pull them out for small groups, and they get very excited about playing games that are supporting their learning. They work as a team and I often hear gentle corrections from one to another when they are in mixed groups.

The variety of resources I've gotten from TPT with the additional gift cards has been amazing! One set gave me STEM projects for each holiday through the year, and we just completed the Christmas Tree Farm class activity including building new barns for the Reindeer! These were so much fun, and yet there was so much learning happening at the same time! We couldn't do it without your help!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cole

  • Guided Reading Is Finally Possible

    Funded Feb 3, 2021

We've had a great time learning a wide variety of topics with our Weekly Reader magazines, and our guided reading books are awesome for developing further reading skills! Many students have improved their reading by several levels, which is amazing and definitely partly due to your help in supporting them with your donation!

My students are especially excited about the monthly magazine that they cut to create a "book" and they work hard to be sure they can take it home and read it to someone else. They love sharing their new knowledge with their parents!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cole

  • Learning About the World With Scholastic!

    Funded Aug 8, 2020

The monthly magazines are a very exciting activity for students (and for their teacher!). Unfortunately with the shutdown of schools for this year, many of my sets of magazines have not been delivered. So we have been using the digital resources and awaiting the moment when we get to have another delivery of the physical magazines!

In our class, we are mostly very early readers. We are practicing our letters and sounds and beginning to be able to read some easy words. The magazines you have helped us get are full of great information that makes the students excited about learning, which then encourages them to want to read! It is exciting to find out about such a wide variety of things each month and tie them into our learning. We greatly enjoy the digital games! Those will be a part of our classroom fun even when we finally get to return to in-person learning.

Between your support and Scholastic's excellence in providing academic materials, my entire class is gaining both knowledge and a thirst to learn more!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cole

  • Introducing Inner-City Students to People Around the World

    Funded Mar 25, 2019

These Scholastic News Magazines are the perfect way to learn to use text evidence while finding out about things that are outside of my students usual world! We love getting a new magazine and reading it, and the online access where the stories can be listened to again or students can play an educational game are a sweet bonus!

We want to thank you for helping us out. It has been so exciting to have a project get funded and to see the whole thing come full - circle. I love being able to expand my students' world outside of their daily life and show them that there are so many different places to go and ways to live! I love being able to tell them that the sky is the limit! It is due to your help that I am able to do it! So thank you from the bottom of my heart!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cole

I can't wait to encourage my students to take advantage of the classroom library. I have been extremely lucky to have received a previous teacher's books and have added many more titles. But the library area currently looks like an industrial place rather than a space that should be enjoyed. The seating and rug I will add to the space will make it inviting and encourage students to spend more time perusing books or simply getting comfortable to read something new. I have a few carpet squares (personal size) that students will be able to use with the area, but not enough for everyone, and they are becoming a little worn. The adorable bean bag chairs will provide a place to sit and read aloud to a stuffed animal, while a wobble-stool will provide a student with the ability to move while staying on task for stamina reading. I'm so excited about this opportunity to create a beautiful area for my students!
