  • Teach Kids to Crochet!

    Funded Mar 15, 2025

Thank you so much in believing in us! It means a lot to me as my students come to learn a skill and to be social. Some of my students have been coming for over a year and has still yet to complete their first project. I love that they will be able to take a project home (that is outside of academics) and be proud of it. With this donation, I hope to streamline the process and build their confidence in crochet. I cannot thank you enough for your generosity. Thank you again for making a difference in our club”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Wan

  • A Document Camera to Highlight Progress & Errors to Learn.

    Funded Sep 14, 2018

First and foremost, thank you for your donations. Without your help, the technology available now would not be possible. In our classroom, we use the document camera to project worksheets and student work in their notebooks. It helps my student learn because it saves us so much time from rewriting on the board. We can also see authentic work as it is written in their notebook. It makes it easier when I tell them that this is a common mistake that I see in many notebooks, such as this one, rather than showing them on the board.

The most exciting aspect about this technology is that we are able to spend more time discussing the classwork. We are able to project a student's work directly and discuss the problem as is, without students having the preconceived notion that the answer is correct because it is being put onto the board. Students are also more likely to display their work as it can remain anonymous and they don't even have to get up from their seats. Students are amazed by the screenshot feature.

Their are many of my students who are excited by this new technology. My more outgoing students are always asking for their work to be put up on the board. My lower performing students are also excited, as they can also showcase their work without judgment. Sometimes they will also be proud and say, "that's my work up there!" Once again, I wanted to thank you for your generosity of helping my students further their learning. My co-teacher, our 70 students, and I have used it every school day and we thank you for making our classroom learning easier.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Wan

This classroom project was brought to life by Verizon and 3 other donors.
A document camera in my classroom allows the students to share their work without rewriting everything on the board. Most of my students are proud of their work and would like to share with their peers. Some of my students are rather shy and do not like to share out loud. However, a document camera would work to be shared publicly or anonymously. The document camera has a lot of flexibility; it allows my students to not only share work publicly or anonymously, it allows for a real discussion of the topic at hand. Students are more likely to discuss their strategies when they can compared it to someone else's. It is also easier to discuss work that is not your own. Students are quicker to point out things that they notice, therefore allowing a real conversation to deeper understanding. It also saves a lot of time writing on the board.
