Many studies have been conducted about the use of flexible seating in a classroom. The thing that I like the most about using flexible seating is that it allows students to choose a space that it the most comfortable for them. As an adult, I cannot imagine having to sit in one spot all day and learn. To be fair, I do not want to have this expectation on my students. I have somewhat already instilled flexible seating in my classroom with the options of different tables, pillows, and a couch for them to sit on, but what I like the most about these items I have put on my list is that they are mobile. Students can take ownership of where they choose to place these items daily and really take responsibility for their own learning. Having low tables, bean bags, floor seats, and an ottoman for my classroom will really help our small room feel more comfortable and inviting. I want my students to feel like our classroom really caters to them and their needs. Being comfortable and having choices is the best way to engage students and to also build our classroom community.
