The main element of this project is a morning meeting rug (Home Dynamix Eric Carle Elementary USA Map Area Rug) for my students with autism. By having a communal group space, students are encouraged to interact socially, which a common difficulty for my students. In addition, these children often have sensory needs, different from those of students in a general education classroom. Alternative seating (Trideer Inflated Stability Wobble Cushion Gaiam Kids Stay-N-Play Children's Balance Ball and CanDo Inflatable Donut Ball) allows students to focus their concentration on the learning, rather than the physical elements of the classroom. Careful planning and execution of a productive classroom environment is crucial to meet the needs of my unique learners. The students in my room require a highly organized classroom which can be achieved through the use of varied storage (STERILITE 16428012 6 Quart/5.7 Liter Storage Box, White Lid with Clear Base and Seville Classics She16210 15.51-Inch By15.4-Inch by 38.2-Inch 10 Drawer Organizer). Not only does this storage help keep the classroom neat, but also allows students to foster their independent learning skills and decision making by selecting activities from these bins.
