  • Pot of Gold at the End of Our Rainbow!

    Funded Mar 25, 2025

Thank you so much for donating to my project. I have very high expectations of my students. Just because there are challenges does not mean that they can’t work on and even above grade level. But in addition to hard work being its own reward, I do want to reward my students with fun incentives. And because of you I can!! Sending love and appreciation to you!!”

    With gratitude,

  • All Work and Play Make Students Happier Kids!

    Funded Apr 16, 2024

Thank you for donating to my students and myself to support my counseling program. I appreciate your contribution, as the donated items will help my students participate in the activities to support their learning and acquire the social/emotional competencies they need to thrive in their academic and social-emotional development and growth. I use the spinning wheel in various ways, such as warm-up activities, icebreakers, what would-you-do questions, sentence starters, choosing a desired breathing activity, etc. It has been a game changer; the students are eager to engage, providing opportunities for them to decide what they want. It was also beneficial at a family engagement, where I labeled the slots for the families to spin and answer mental health questions. I also paired the prizes with the colorful stress balls, which have inspiring sayings to support taking care of one's mental health.

The UNO card game has always been popular among my students. I use it to add a touch of social-emotional learning. For example, when playing, the students need to be focused so that if they get to use a yellow card, they will need to respond by answering a question: "What comfortable or uncomfortable feelings have you recently experienced?" Additionally, if the card is red, a question may be, "When was the last time you were upset, and what did you do? Overall, it does not matter how I use the game to engage my students; we always have a great bonding of energy and healthy social skills engagement. Using the UNO card games not only provides the students with opportunities to enjoy themselves and others but also for them to practice their social skills such as waiting for their turns, healthy expression when someone drops off a card that they don't like, understanding the mindset that winning is not always the point when engaging in a game and so on. Uno is a win-win game for my students.

The lollipops are a great addition to support my students in enjoying a treat after engaging in counseling activities. I also use the lollipops to motivate and celebrate students. For example, I wrap motivational messages around them or offer them for their birthdays or when they are caught doing something kind for themselves or others. These incentives support the entire school community as students get a small token of appreciation, feel a sense of solid belonging at the school, and experience what is to feel joy about themselves and others.”

  • See Our True Colors Shining, Copying, Printing, & Scanning Through!

    Funded May 24, 2024

Thank you so much for donating in order to help me purchase a color printer for my classroom. I am still waiting for my science workbooks. Until then, everything that the students have to work on has to be printed out. There is always a line at the one school printer that prints. It's often a time waster. Now I can print out a copy and go straight to one of the copiers to make my class sets.

With a color printer, I was able to print out a mood meter in red, blue, yellow, and green. Before this, I had it in black and white with names of the colors and the feelings. Having a colored mood meter in the room helps my students identify how they are feeling. Our school printer, often runs out of ink, so we usually are only able to print black and white.

I have some students who use assistive technology in order to do their writing. They do not use paper and pencil. With my own printer, I can print their work and make it part of our class bulletin boards. Representation matters! Thank you again!”

  • Is "Eleven" the Loneliest Number?

    Funded Oct 30, 2021

Thank you so much for your donations to allow me to get copies of the book "Eleven," by Tom Rogers. The way that my students have responded to this book have surpassed my expectations. Students look forward to book club every day. They are making connections between the main character and themselves. They are also discussing the events from September 11, 2001 from a historical and analytical perspective. This book is helping my students be more empathetic and sympathetic to each other. This will be a book that I will read with my students every year. Thank you for making this happen!”

  • Mightier than the Sword at Home or School

    Funded Sep 13, 2020

Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity! The students and I have gotten a lot of use out of the materials that you helped me get. The whiteboard and dry erase markers help me teach in an "old school" kind of way. When I write on the whiteboard, they see me at the same time, and it reminds them of when we were all in school together. The headphones have been game changers. Since the students are all in different classes at the same time, even when they are in the same room, they need to block out the noise from others to focus. With the extra pencils, pens, and crayons, there is no sharing and no worrying about spreading germs. The notebooks and post-its were provided for whoever need to write as opposed to type. The students are very excited that they don't have to worry about not having what they need. Thank you again!”

  • Getting "Techy" With It!!

    Funded Jul 7, 2020

Thank you so much for your generous donations. Unfortunately, due to the demand of laptops, the vendor was not able to fulfill the order. Instead, I used the funding on headphones which were greatly needed. Some of the headphones were kept in school and used by students in the classroom. Other headphones were sent home to the students doing online learning in care packages along with other supplies that they needed.

Some students in the classroom are actually virtually attending different classes due to specialty classes and support service providers that they need. They need the noise cancelling headphones to hear what is going on in their classes and not get distracted by others in the same room who are learning something else. Furthermore, students who are learning at home often have siblings who are doing remote learning as well. It can be noisy and distracting as a result. Therefore, the noise cancelling headphones make it easier for the students to focus on their classes.

My students were very excited to be given the headphones. They said that they are comfortable and work very well. We all appreciate your kindness.”

  • Say What?

    Funded Dec 25, 2019

Thank you so much for donating to my project. The headphones have changed the dynamic of my classroom. Before we got them, if students used iPads, the volume had to be down really low so that no one else would get distracted. It was hard for the students using the iPads to hear and other students would still get distracted. Now my students can actually hear the iPads and no one else is distracted. This has been especially important to the population with reading disabilities who need to listen to a story being read while it's read to them. It is helping with their fluency and identifying tricky words. Thank you again for your generosity!”

  • Chromebooks Make Group-Work Work!

    Funded Nov 22, 2019

Thank you so much for donating to my project. The laptops have been very useful in my classroom. My students recently used the laptops to research Motown as part of our Black History research project. The students were able to watch videos and read articles that helped them understand the impact it had on Civil Rights. In addition, my students have been working with online activities on abcya.com. As a result, it has been helping them with their phonics. This month, we are going to be researching powerful women and their impact of society as part of our Women's History Month project. Thank you for giving us this gift of a greater education.”

  • A Rainbow of Portfolios

    Funded Sep 19, 2019

Thank you so much for the rainbow of folders that you have provided for the classroom. The students and I feel so much more organized having folders of the same color for each subject.

At the beginning of the year, many students did not bring in folders as part of their supply list. When we were organizing our work, I had to give these students a paper clip to keep the work together. With the arrival of the folders, I have been able to provide everyone with a folder. No one has to feel like they were unprepared.

The folders additionally make my shelves look a lot more organized and attractive. I try to keep my room colorful and organized so students feel happy and clear-headed to learn. There is much less disorganization and students have learned to not just put their work down, but to put them away in the appropriate folder. Thank you for helping us with this. It is very much appreciated.”

  • Making Social Studies Sensational Through Technology

    Funded Jun 24, 2019

Having an I-pad to use for Social Studies has really made a difference. We do not have many social studies materials that are engaging enough to keep the students interested. So having an extra I-Pad for students to take turns sharing provides extra support.

Students have used the I-Pad to learn about the geographical features on the earth and on maps. They have played interactive games to help them understand where their state is and the other states are on a map of the United States. They also got practice using a compass rose, which has made it easier for them to use one on a regular map.

Students have also learned not only about where the continents are, but they have also searched the internet to learn about the cultures of some countries in the world. It's so exciting to hear how one student compared a dumpling with an empanada

and said, "Oh, we have that too." We have just begun using the I-Pads for social studies, and it is my hope that it will make students realize that no matter who you are, or where you are, we are more similar than different. And when students learn more because they want to, not because they have to, that's just everything! Thank you so much for making this happen!”

I want my classroom to welcome my students and make them feel at home. Like a comfortable couch, the floor seats provide a comfortable alternative place to sit to read. The tennis balls go on the bottom of the chairs so when the children get up, there's no loud sound to distract them. The name tags give the students a sense of ownership of their desk, just like they have a sense of ownership of their bedrooms. This project is part one of a work in progress to make the classroom the students' second home. After all, we are a family at school.
