This year, I will be teaching a group of pull-out resource students. This is my first year at a new school in a new district, and I am lacking many items that will make the year successful. My project consists of a variety of different resources that will help my students focus, and learn. Many of my students need tactile sensory stimulation, which can be achieved through the use of Bouncy Bands, chair cushions, and a classroom rug. Students who have autism, ADHD, ADD, anxiety, etc, would greatly benefit from having these products in my classroom. It allows students to move discreetly; addressing their need to fidget while not distracting others or making themselves feel noticeable. Active students are more productive and spend more time on task when they can move. Students who feel anxious when working enjoy being able to stretch their legs to release their anxiety while they work. Some of my other students have difficulties with writing, and require specialized paper including sentences strips and wide ruled notebooks. These simple modifications will empower my students, and will have a wonderful effect on our classroom community.
