  • Hands-on Learning in Science

    Funded Aug 16, 2023

Thank you so much for supporting my students and providing hands-on activities in order for them to learn science. It makes a huge difference in the learning experience.

This week we were able to make fossils as a culminating activity after learning about Pangea and the Earth's layers. This was a very fun and engaging end to the day.

We look forward to doing the terrariums as we learn about the life cycle of a plant and cells. In addition, my students can't wait to grow the crystals at the end of the rock cycle unit. It really does bring science to life for them! Thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Prior

  • Seeing the World Through a Different Lens!

    Funded Aug 29, 2020

This project was wonderful! Students were able to use microscopes and slides to observe things from the real world of science. They looked at bugs, leaves, and even their own skin. I think this gave some students a love for science that they didn't know they had. Being able to see things with a microscope makes opens up a whole new world for them.

Even students that do not speak English enjoyed this hands-on experience. They were able to make observations and draw what they saw. It is bringing science to life for them!”

  • Learning About The Earth With Our Hands!

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

This project was amazing! My students were so excited to build their very own terrariums. We are studying living things, so this was a great introduction to our life science unit. Over the next couple of weeks, my students will water, observe and log the progress of their plants growing. They put hard work into making the conditions just right in their terrariums, so I know we are going to have great results!

With nine different languages in this science class, hands-on activities make the biggest impact. My students will remember this experience for many years to come. Thank you so much for bringing real life science into my classroom!

    Kind Regards,

  • Learning Through Mentor Text!

    Funded Nov 30, 2021

Thank you so much for supporting my students. We received our books, and we are currently using them to help us write our own narratives. The biggest impact for my students is seeing the dialogue being used by a professional author. Dialogue formatting feels strange sometimes for students because each time a new character speaks in a conversation, it is a new paragraph. This feels very awkward for students because until now, they have been told that a paragraph is five to eight sentences. Sometimes dialogue creates a paragraph with only one word! It is great to see this being used in our mentor text. Thank you again for helping our students grow as writers and readers!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Prior

Students should all have the opportunity to have a hands-on experience with learning for all subjects. However, when learning about living things (life science), students should be able to study the small parts of living organisms that are not seen by the naked eye in order to investigate the world in which they live. These microscopes and slides will give students this very opportunity. They will allow the opportunity for a deeper insight to the world around us. As a seventh grade class, this is the first year students have a chance to really focus on science. I want to give my students a kinesthetic learning experience in order to give them a deep understanding of the living things around us. It is important to learn through real observations and hands-on activities and labs.
