Tale of Dueling Neurosurgeons
Funded Jun 11, 2020Thank you so much for your contribution to the purchase of Dueling Neurosurgeons Novels. The students were very engaged in the reading of the book, which has been especially difficult this year with COVID. The novel appealed to their sense of history and (let's be honest) gore. They were able to effectively take the novel and use their creativity to generate some interesting products for their Neurology Museum. Anytime we can find a way to positively associate reading with the younger generation it's been a successful lesson.”

Literacy In Anatomy And Physiology
Funded Nov 20, 2018Dear Donors:
I am writing to say thank you for your generous donations to my classroom project. The students definitely gained a lot of insight from reading the book, "Why we get sick?" Some of them have already began to utilize the information contained within the novel to improve their health.
In order to ensure full immersion and understanding of books in science, it is not only important to read the novel. As a teacher you must be willing to put in the time to ensure students can identify unknown or problematic words/ concepts. O broke the students into group of 3-4. They were responsible for deciding who was going to read what chapters, and then had to complete a sheet for each chapter. The sheet ensured that the students identified anything that may have difficulty understanding, as well as concepts they may want to use in their projects. The students were not only responsible for reading their part of the book but needed to create a poster, second item to help people who hadn't read the book understand it, and then a 3D item to go with their project. The students took to generating games, websites, posters, and 3D objects to demonstrate an understanding of the content contained in the book.
The benefit of getting novels for my classroom is that I will be able to continue to use them year after year as long as the information is still valid.
Once again thank you for you willingness to help educate my students and make connections to the world outside of the classroom.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Hattendorf
