My students need hands-on, active, and engaging engineering activities to build and create their own solutions to real-world problems. STEM classes always start by teaching a concept using a phenomenon. Students are then asked to use the engineering process to try and explain why that phenomenon happened and come up with multiple solutions, if necessary. LEGOs and other hands-on materials are a great way to visually present their reasoning and solutions to the performance task in my STEM class. Students can work through a challenge with their peers and imagine themselves being a part of the solution. It's important that I have a large class set of LEGOs in order to make their learning experience even better!
