Students today are not reading for pleasure. This year, my goal is to instill a passion for reading in my kids. Studies show that reluctant readers are more likely to read when they are surrounded by great books. A high-interest book series helps combat several issues that reluctant readers have: 1) what book to choose next and 2) taking the time and energy to invest in a new title. A book series provides an immediate next book by an author that the student enjoyed and characters he/she has come to know. I wish to fill my book shelves with relatable young adult books that my students will devour. And hopefully, along the way, they will become life-long readers.
