Ss Through the Arts!
Funded May 31, 2023Thank you so much for donating to our class project! With your donations, we were able to provide our students with all of the needed supplies to create their fantastic art projects.
The students were so excited to see their art work displayed around our classroom. They participated in a gallery walk, wherein they walked around and voted for the top 2! We will be tallying up their votes and announcing our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. We even had teachers and administration coming in to place their votes. Our students said this was one of their favorite activities of the year.
We are blessed!

Grasping Our World
Funded Nov 19, 2019Thank you to all of our donors for helping to provide so many wonderful hands-on opportunities for our students to learn. They look forward to using these materials and are always excited when they see new items arrive to the classroom.
The addition of the world globe and skills games have helped below, approaching, and on-grade learners to better understand the impact that the civilizations studied have had on one another. The continent and world geography games have prodivded a fun, interactive way, for the students to learn more about the world. The students have utilized the News Paper Guide books to create meaningful connections to the topics while simulataneously working on their writing skills, which is a major skill that we are focusing on this year.
Your donations and support are so meaningful. Thank you for helping to make a "world" of a difference!”

Collaborative Learning Center
Funded Oct 14, 2019We are so grateful to have our Collaborative Learning Center project fully funded. The project that we so generously received was a large dry-erase white board table with wheels on it. This table is located in the back of our classroom and is utilized for small group work and intervention purposes. Both the students and myself are able to utilize the board to sort through information, organize thoughts and processes, and create visuals hands-on that build stronger and more impactful connections.
When the students heard that we got a project they were very excited. When they saw what it was they were in awe. However, when the students began utilizing the dry-erase white board table they were just so engaged, motivated, and purely happy. It is my great pleasure to share the impact that your donation has had on the smiling faces of young, eager students.
With sincerest gratitude,

Flexing Our Brain with Flexible Seating
Funded Aug 23, 2018Dear Donors,
Thank you so much for taking the time to read through our Donors Choose proposal. The contributions that you made have had a tremendous impact on the students. The students enjoy using all of the flexible seating options in the classroom. They look forward to coming to class and are attentive both physically and mentally. This may seem like just a silly chair to some, but it truly makes the classroom a unique and special place to be. This helped to piggy back off of another flexible seating Donors Choose Project that we ran. Combined, it has been a wonderful success.”

NYC Students Need the BASICS
Funded Aug 22, 2018Thank you so much for donating money to help purchase the necessary supplies to kick of the start of a successful school year. The students are making great use of all of the donated materials.
The classroom supplies that have been donated have also made a major impact on our classroom. The students have been keeping their social studies portfolios very organized with the folders and they are very proud to look through it and reflect on their work so far. It really has helped to create the feeling of "professionalism" as they gather strong pieces of work together. Additionally, the students are using Google Classroom often to work both independently and in groups to create and present PowerPoint presentations. Having the copy paper donation has provided students the opportunity to print out these slides and showcase their work proudly within the classroom and on the class bulletin board. It has also been instrumental in differentiating work for students with disabilities and any students who just require a different level of work on the same topic.
Having some of the most basic supplies ends up being very costly for an educator. Therefore, having the highlighters, scotch tape, white-out correction tape, velcro strips, magnetic strips, and so on has made such a difference on the simple day to day activities in the classroom. The students also love the pencil sharpener. As do the teachers!! It is fast and quiet! The students use the clipboards regularly when we do Gallery Walks in class. It is a great tool to keep learning student-centered, while maintaining the organization and function necessary within a classroom. The addition of the softer lighting also has contributed to our overall classroom environment. By adding just a few warm and gentle touches, the classroom feels way more welcoming to both staff and students.
The students have explored the American sign language cards and are eager to get started using them during their classes. Most of the students are not enrolled in a foreign language so exposure to another language such as sign language is going to have a tremendous impact on them. The students have enjoyed utilizing the lessons in the miscellaneous history books that have been donated. We are looking forward to continued use of all of these materials for the duration of the school year.”

Funded Aug 14, 2018Thank you very much for donating to Ms. Brandt's "Flexing Our Brain with Flexible Seating" project on DonorsChoose. The students are utilizing the materials bought with the donations everyday. The flexible seating options such as the wobble chairs and yoga balls have created an environment where students feel more engaged in the classroom. Physically, they are more attentive because they are engaging their core muscles to maintain balance on the wobble chairs and yoga balls. Therefore, mentally they are more attentive to classroom discussions and staying focused on completing classroom assignments. I have already observed such a difference in the ability of the students to maintain their concentration during our lesson.
The classroom supplies that have been donated have also made a major impact on our classroom. The students love to use the mobile laptop stand while working in groups. It creates this feeling of "professionalism" within them which is helping to drive their focus to quality output of work. The students are using Google Classroom often to work both independently and in groups to create and present powerpoint presentations. Having the copy paper donation has provided students the opportunity to print out these slides and showcase their work proudly within the classroom and on the class bulletin board.
During assessments students love having the privacy to focus on their own assessments by using the privacy shields. Personally, this is one of my favorite donations because I see less testing anxiety presented as the students are not nonchalantly eye-balling their peer to see what number they are up to on their test. The timers have been instrumental in helping students manage their progress and maintain awareness of the assessment time remaining.
Lastly, the students are absolutely loving the Super Duper Yogarilla Exercises and Activities Cards. It is a productive way for students to manage social-emotional self-awareness and self-care. This is an extremely important initiative set forth within our Educational Policy and my own personal beliefs. The impact of these donations does not go unnoticed as we are reminded everyday in using these materials.”

Funded Aug 13, 20182018 - 2019 School Year
I.S. 72 - Staten Island, NY
Dear Donors,
Thank you so much for donating to "Socializing with Life Skills." We really appreciate your donation to our class and the students promise to take excellent care of the supplies that we received. The students are so grateful and have stated "we will treasure these donations forever!"
In Life Skills class the students are learning about being a "social detective" and how many people can be a "social detective" in everyday situations. A "social detective" is a person that helps you in a social situation. The students are utilizing the lesson on the software "You Are A Social Detective" and "School Rules Vol 1 & Vol 2" to learn about real-life situations, problem solving, working as a group, and empathy. The students are learning how to implement the skills they learn in class to their everyday life. For instance, a student would think and act like a "social detective" when their friend is not talking to them, and he or she is ignoring you. You would ask a social detective to help you find out why he or she is not talking to you. Without your donation, we would not be able to learn about being a "social detective" in such a fun and engaging way.
In the classroom, the students are also engaged in the "Life Skills for Today's World" board games. These board games help the students in many ways. For example, the Social Skills board games provides students the opportunity to discuss different social situations, problem solve, and work together in a fun manner. The Safety board game helps instruct students in how to handle themselves in day-to-day safety situations as well as in an emergency. The Career Exploration board game allows students the opportunity to really start thinking of their future in a way that is attainable and informative. Lastly, the Behavior Board game has particularly been instrumental for students in learning to be more self-aware.
It is because of the Donors Open Hearts and Generosity that these students are learning real life skills that are attainable, important, applicable, and fun!”

Mrs. McVey
