  • Help give our students a more enjoyable learning experience!

    Funded May 13, 2024

I want to thank you for the support my students and I have received with this project. I cannot wait to see the students' faces when they get their supplies for writing in their thoughts and feelings, and I am so thankful that this has been made possible from caring people like yourselves.”

    With gratitude,

  • Building School Community Through Creativity!

    Funded Jun 8, 2023

Thank you so much for contributing to this project. It is always uplifting to know that there are people in the world who care for and support public education and the needs of our students therein. Our students and school community will enjoy having access to such a magical machine that is the Cricut.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Nolasco

  • Special Treats for Special Students!

    Funded Aug 9, 2022

Thank you so much for the support you have given my community of learners. My students appreciate being rewarded for the kindness they exhibit each day. While they understand being kind and respectful does not necessarily warrant a tangible reward, it does feel nice to be acknowledged with a small token that highlights their day. It is nice to learn that when you give from your heart, the universe may reward you right back with something nice! And of course it's true that everyone enjoys a little treat from time to time!”

  • Clear and Neat Assignments Make the Grade!

    Funded Oct 23, 2018

I want to express my sincerest gratitude for supporting my classroom. We were so happy to finally have a printer in our classroom which we could all use, and was specifically assigned to us, giving us freedom to print assignments as needed. After taking a survey, it was noted that none of the students in the class had access to a printer, though they wanted the experience of typing and improving their keyboarding skills, but hadn't been able to do so as again, they did not have the ability to print their assignments.

Additionally, we were able to procure a partnership with a neighboring studio and we were able to print the pages of a comic book we were working on which detailed personal stories the students have written. Moreover, the different color markers we were provided through our donors, also allowed students the opportunity and experience to be able to color and outline their comic book pages.

I have to say, that while for some students, having access to printers and coloring markers and pens is a thing that goes unnoticed, it is most often a rare occurrence for some of our students in the community.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Nolasco

  • Maximizing Our Learning Experience Through Educational Videos!

    Funded Aug 13, 2021

Thank you to everyone who made this project possible. I am so eager to see the faces of the students as they engage in collaborative, in person learning this year! Students deserve the best we can offer, and I am looking forward to creating engaging lessons that will support their growth as we navigate a new kind of school year together!”

  • Reading Is Fun!

    Funded Aug 23, 2018

You can not imagine the joy my class has experienced reading this novel. For most students, this is the first time they have engaged in reading a novel that is meaningful to them, one they can connect to in one way or another. What I have seen is my students show a new enthusiasm for reading. We have laughed, cried, been really upset at the characters as we have become enthralled in these beloved characters that have made us believe in the kindness and the strength of the human spirit.

We have worked on reading comprehension, learned about figurative language, have been able to make inferences and connections and have worked enthusiastically on team projects that have made this novel come alive!

A few students have told me they have put this novel on their Christmas wish lists while others have gotten parents to buy it so that they may read it together at home. You can't imagine my joy when I received a note from a parent thanking me for introducing a book to her child that has actually made her want to read!

The reality is that I have to thank DonorsChoose for making this happen, for allowing us to bring this story to our classroom, because quite frankly I might not have been able to do so otherwise.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Nolasco

Our students seldom read on their own. But I believe that introducing them to great books, to rich literature can engage them and help them become independent readers. My students will read Esperanza Rising and engage in small group and whole group discussion as well as practice new vocabulary, learn to cite textual evidence and improve their reading comprehension. I believe all students can be taught to enjoy reading. We need great books that will engage them in their worlds and instill a love for literature. Esperanza Rising is a great tool to to help us accomplish this important goal.
