Brett Blumenthal said, "If the opportunity does not exist, create it." As a math and science teacher I see the need for more STEM opportunities in my classroom. There are many times my students will finish their work, looking to jump into the next task. I realized this would be the perfect time to engage them in STEM activities that keep their brain stimulated. I would like to create a STEM station in my classroom where they can continue to engage in science, technology, engineering and math tasks. In an information driven world we want our kids to be scientifically literate. By engaging my students in actual projects I am allowing them to become more immersed in their learning. I would like to do this through construction projects. For my project, I am looking to purchase building materials for students. Connecting gears, construction Goobi pieces and other construction tool kits to get students to understand the engineering world and experience it through hands-on learning. I also look to encourage students with the display of STEM materials and ideas with a bulletin board set.
