All these supplies will be used in a self-contained Autism program. Each item was picked to address their special and unique needs. Students with Autism thrive in a structured environment where an established routine is kept as consistent as possible. Adhering to daily schedules and allowing ample time for transitions can help with many students' behavioral issues and frustrations. Students with autism learn better with pictures and demonstrations. I usually limit long verbal instructions and provide visual cues and written instructions, when possible. Also to limit distractions I use positive rewards for positive behaviors. Most of the items on the list will address these special needs within the classroom. Many people with autism have strong passions and deep interests. Items on this list addresses the passion and interest of the students. It also addresses the transition back to in person school from a year plus of distance learning. Having special high interest items in the classroom helps to create a positive learning experience for my students.
