This classroom project was brought to life by The DonorsChoose Community and 4 other donors.Let's Make Literacy Fun
Funded Nov 11, 2023My students absolutely enjoy the items that were donated. They were in awe of the literacy games when they arrived to our classroom a few months ago. When they arrived, we introduced them to students in small groups of 4-6 students. They were able to participate in reading and writing CVC words and had fun doing so without feeling overwhelmed.
Moving forward, we will continue to build upon students' literacy skills and begin working with digraphs. We are also beginning to write phrases and short sentences to prepare for first grade.
Thank you again for your kindness and generosity.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Butler
Let's Do More Science Hands-On
Funded May 3, 2023Thank you again for your donations! Although we received our materials later in the school year, my students enjoyed using the microscope during the last few weeks of school. They were amazed at how tiny items seemed much larger under the microscope. They were not able to use the liquid discovery tubes and planetarium garden lab; however my new students will have the opportunity to use them spring 2024.
When my students first saw the new materials, some knew what they were but others were very curious. Almost 50% of my students spoke a language other than English in their homes and many of them had never been to school, so having exposure to a microscope and slides was an amazing experience for them.
My next steps are to continue to use the materials and have my new class of students search for items outside that they would like to see under the microscope.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Butler
Flexible Seating, Modern Puzzles, and Nonfiction Science Books
Funded May 6, 2022I am please to write this note of gratitude. My students enjoy using the cushions when they are working in small groups or independently. They are able to focus better and stretch their bodies when they are working.
The puzzles we received are amazing. The best part is the diversity shown within the puzzles. Students are able to see individuals with disabilities of different ethnic backgrounds in the puzzles. This allows for them to have an appreciation for diversity.
We also received nonfiction science books and we can't wait to use them in the spring when we talk about life science.
Again, thank you for your donation. The students are excited to use the materials.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Butler
