Our upstairs makerspace is overseen by an enthusiastic group of tinkerers known as the Tech Club. Thanks to a dedicated president--who often uses his own money to buy equipment for the club--as well as limited library funding available to buy some things for the makerspace, tech club features 3D printing, building computers, and more. The president was able to add a robotics division last year because one member generously brought in his own personal robot kit to work on. This set of beginner Hexbug Vex kits would keep the robotics program going for this year, expanding access to it beyond the once weekly workshops put on by the tech club. After some guidance from their more experienced robotics peers in the tech club to get them started, students will be able to come in and work on the kits before and after school and during lunches! This gives access to all students so that they can explore a possible elective (competitive robotics) they might otherwise never have the confidence to sign up for. For students already in the robotics class, having this equipment available to ALL in the library gives them the opportunity to run workshops and teach others, or experiment and go beyond what they are doing in the class! All interested students will have the opportunity to try out these exciting new kits!
