My kids come from difficult backgrounds and face many hardships in the community they are growing up in. Counseling has proven difficult at times due to the fact that I have had very limited access to any evidence-based, structured counseling curriculum. Our department is a bit underfunded which is the reason for this. Colleagues have recommended Mind Up and Strong Kids to help reach my K-8 students and their specific needs. I am excited to present my students with these tools and activities during individual as well as group counseling! In addition to curriculum, my students often need a "safe space" or a "cool down area" to go to when they are upset and need a break from school. I have not had the appropriate space to do this in the past, but I'm finally getting a private space this year. I can't wait to offer a comfortable area for my kids to come to in their times of need!
