My students need a classroom rug to encourage them to transition to group learning. It is necessary because it will be used to teach skills such as: listening, waiting for a turn to speak, and expressing themselves in a respectful manner. When my students walk into the classroom, I want them to see that they have a special place in the room to sit, listen, and learn together. I teach in a Title 1 school with a very diverse student body including many children learning English as a second language. It is crucial that the students see an organized classroom with a special place for them to come together from the first day of school. The beautiful colors in the rug and the alphabet reflect the diversity of the students in the classroom. The table is extremely necessary for guided reading and math groups. The students will know that when we transition to that table, we break down into small groups and work on growing our reading and math levels.
