The use of iPads during reading and math station work provides each student access to interactive applications targeted at their individual academic needs. UW-Milwaukee allowed the temporary use of four iPads in my classroom last year and the positive effects were astounding. Due to the varying special needs of the students I serve, offering differentiated instruction is crucial. The iPads offered interactive practice at all levels and across all content areas. While one student was able to practice letter formation and letter identification, another could work on reading short passages with independence, allowing me to provide each student individualized instruction time during stations. Additionally, sensory applications and soft music allowed my students on the spectrum to take a needed "break" from the overstimulation of the school day and practice self-regulation. This access to technology is vital to my students' success. I hope to offer them the same access and opportunity this year.
